The Indian kingdom of the early medieval period rose and fell frequently because the
History of the early medieval period is centred on power struggles against regional
kingdoms of both North and South India.The most prominent among these kingdoms were
the Rajput kingdom in the north and the Chola kingdom in the south.

3. Write briefly on the jatis that emerged in medieval India?

The growth of new professions gave rise to a large number of sub castes each called a Jati. A
jati consisted of people who were in the same profession. Prominent among the jatis that
emerged were the Kayasthas- a sub caste of scribes. The Kayasthas rose to importance
because record keeping had become an important profession. The jatis had their own rules
and regulations administrated by the elders.

Islam is a Muslim believe.It emerged from mecca in Saudi Arabia.It is based on the
belief in one God.
5. What is Sufism?
Sufism is a mystic tradition of Islam and includes a range of practices and beliefs
dedicated to Allah, divine love and cultivation of heart. The Sufis in the medieval
period practised love and compassion towards all other beings. They rejected the
elaborate rituals and codes of behaviour (based on shariat) demanded by the
Muslim scholars.
