1. A bathroom I’m willing to use
would help a great deal. I personally
love the open space of the field and it
is used regularly, not just for soccer.
Kids and families are always running
around. Yoga. Dogs moving beyond
the dog park. It allowed the
opportunity of the incredible kites
during covid. It seems
misrepresentative to say that they are
just fields only being used by soccer.
It is regularly enjoyed by many. I do
like the idea of a raised sunset
watching hill.

Yes, there are games on some

week. It always looks like everyone is
having a great time, both participants
and observers. The park is also
currently used for picnics, walking, as
a dog park, for baseball and
basketball, for pickup games among
families. I see it as currently having
multiple uses and being utilized in that
way rather than being monopolized by
outsiders or anyone group. It seems
to currently serve a multitude of
needs and desires. On the other
hand, I WOULD like to see it more
attractively landscaped to the extent
that it doesn't inhibit current uses, but
rather encourages an even wider
variety of uses.

considerations for living in the Cays is
that its relatively unknown and

persons to the area. Creating a park
with amenities will create an attractive
nuisance and the next thing that will
happen will be there will be increased
crime in the area.

cannot handle the out of town crowds
that already have taken over Grand
Caribe Isle park, the Cays should not

non-residents, if they want a park they

plenty of facilities and enforcement!!
The Cays cannot handle any more
crowd attractants. Keep the park

allowable. Use native plants drought
resistant plants only. And a dirt path
not paved. some benches. But not
highly developed, more natural. better
views of the ocean/beach and

crowded. For some of us, the passing
cars are not so bad.

late now but all Coronado residents
should have/could have(?) been
invited to take this survey. We'd also
like to add that much of the beauty of
Spreckels Park (133 years old!) is the
result of volunteers (not the City)...ie
the Band Shell was built by
"Coronado Beautiful" and funded by
donations. Many of the trees in the
park (and on the golf course for that
matter!) were commemorative and
paid for and planted to honor a
deceased person.

needs improvement. It is used now
but would be used more often if it was
not so rundown. The dog park is a
jewel and used quite a bit by many

community (unlike the village where

see outside , young adults using the
fields from other communities. But
they are not Coronado residents and
are not Coronado tax payers. Don't
get me wrong . I love soccer. My son
grew up playing competive soccer for
Surf. But this is a community park- for
the entire communities use. If you
need more soccer fields put some at
Tidelands. Don't take over the Cays
only park!!!

improvements that can be made so it
can be multi use for all to enjoy. Not

feels like it could be a great space to

water-sucking patch of grass only
useful to a handful of people, most
who don't even live here. Please give

1987 and have used the dog park,
playground equipment, and walkways
over the years. It is a shame that
soccer has taken over, causing high
traffic volume and litter problems. It is
one thing to have a local, Coronado
school team once in awhile, but the
teams coming here are not local and
shouldn't be allowed to take over our
park. If more room is needed, why not
ask the Port for Tideland Park use - it
is much bigger and parking is much
better.

drones, frisbee football games, kids
sports camps in the summer, etc.). I
definitely think that there should be
tennis courts, pickle ball courts and a
basketball court. The sand horse-
shoe area has never been used and
should go. The sand volleyball court
has never been used for volleyball but
rather used for soccer net storage.
You gotta put the soccer nets
somewhere. I think if done right - we
could have both a large open field
area for soccer and activities that
require wide open space and also
work in beautiful landscaped areas
with trees, sculpture, a stage for
concerts, more stuff for kids to play
on, etc. in and around the fields. I
don't think one or the other is the
answer. If you turn Cays Park into a
gigantic version of Spreckles Park -
you will have a large forested area
that gets used much less than it does
now. I am also a big fan of the dog
park (it gets used alot) - though it
should be made larger and probably
fenced/walled in. I would also keep
the parking lot at least the same size
especially if you intend to have
concerts, art shows, etc. or people will
be parking in resident driveways
(reminiscent of Spreckles Concert in
the Park). Great opportunity - let's get
it right

1. 20 + year resident of Cays and
the only people I have observed
utilizing the park are families with
children and children playing sports in
the park. I want the kids to maintain
an area to exercise and participate in
sporting events for the future. We
need to maintain our open spaces. I
also have observed that people
ignore the dog park perimeter and let
their dogs crap all over the park. I am
a dog owner and do not allow my dog
to run free outside the dog park. I also
frequently pick up other dog owners
dog crap in other areas of the park. I
was not originally in favor of adding a
fence for dog park but over the last
year I am now in favor of adding
fence to dog park.
2. A community garden would be a
wonderful addition and, if organized
properly, should pay for itself....

Cays Blvd to protect dogs and kids
from cars. b) It is not outlandish to

street from the park. If you want,
beautify it, but don't make it an
attraction for non residents of the
Cays. No permanent soccer field
please, keep it as is (after play, goals
are taken down). Keep the tennis
courts.

should be ranking each of the

of how important each thing is. The
way the question is presented doesn’t
accurately represent my priorities. For
example, I like sports in the park like
how it is now, but don’t want workout
equipment there. Don’t want night
lighting(already so many lights
around) Don’t want fire pits (bad for
environment and smelly!!!!) don’t want
a pond ( who is going to maintain
this?) Dont want art structures. Shade
would be nice for playground area for
sure. People bring chairs if they want
to sit so I don’t think we need picnic
tables. There’s plenty of picnic
benches at the bay of silver strand
where the sand volleyball counts are
and do people ever use those?

residential community and we need to
compliment and protect it.
158. The CAys is primarily a water
based community. If you live here and
don't have a dog you don't give it any
thought
159. The current park is seen as a
youth sports park. This is just one part
of identity. Where are the features
and opportunities which might
welcome elders.
160. The dog people are raking
advantage of the area, dogs running
everywhere, onto soccer fields while
kids are playing, more than ever.
Even during covid, the park was so
busy with dogs and the owners do not
watch their dogs, or clean up after
them.
161. The fewer infrastructure changes
the better. Open space is good, the
fewer programmed and/or profit-
making events (e. g. soccer) the
better. We don’t need more
structures, we need space for normal
people to enjoy the park. And please
nothing that will become a homeless
magnet!

very helpful for local families that

on a nice playground. If you have the
time look up the plans or photos from
poinsettia park in Carlsbad, it's a
wonderful layout.

many soccer games and they ruin the

soccer. Spreckels is pretty, but sits
unused 90% of the time. Cays
residents go there too, but our park
provides something unique and
beautiful in the Cays that the Village
and the entire County can enjoy too!
People that visit always remark how
lucky we are to have such vast park
for playing in, flying kites, holding
great tournaments. It makes us
special and we are the envy of the
area, which helps us keep our kids in
Nado vice Albion. Don’t ruin it!

173. This is just a general, but I feel
from my perspective an important
statement. As many of you are aware,
California in general is not doing very
well. Other states do not look up to it
anymore. And in fact, use the state as
a bad example. Major 'White Flight' is
occurring and will not let up (it will last
for decades) until there are major
changes, in particular the tax
structure and excess social programs.
Hopefully, especially for those that
live here all the time ( I was, but
decided not to) will make the right
choices for the majority. And yes
maybe expand some of the open
areas just a little ( in a natural way) to
give those like me a little ''breathing
room'. Finally, in general, I have found
Californians to be very cordial, I
respect them and their traditions and
simply put are great people. I am very
confident, the right choices will be
made.

ocean, but other flowers/plants would
be okay, just nothing set to be too tall.

risking a ticket, head to Grand Caribe
Shoreline. The other parks in
Coronado have rules and
enforcement e.g. tickets or warning
for dogs off leash, alcohol and fires.
Why doesn't this happen in Grand
Caribe Shoreline Park?

and I was chairman of the Scottsdale
Parks and Recreation commission for
4 years and served on the
commission for 8 years. I have some
experience with the park planning
process and its effect on
neighborhoods. From my observation.
Before reducing the number of Soccer
/ Lacross Fields we must address
where they will be relocated to. There
is definitely a need for those fields
(they are used almost daily) so we
cannot just remove them and say
good Bye. I also have a concern for
the views that will be impaired /
changed by planting trees in between
the Bahama and Trinidad homes and
the ocean. By my count about 36
homes will be affected. Those people
purchased their homes with the park
there and open to see the ocean. I am
not in favor of removing that view
from them arbitrarily. That sounds like
a class action lawsuit in the making to
me. Their approval would be required
before I could support additional
trees. I commend your request in this
survey for responses. However I do
take exception to how the questions
were framed and asked. The
questions are framed for a particular
response. For a truly impartial survey
the questions should be impartial and
not asking for a particular response.
Example "7. PARK DESIGN
FEATURES ESPECIALLY WORTHY
OF FURTHER CONSIDERATION."
with that questions there was not a
choice for "Few or no Changes". Last
the city hosted 2 public meetings one
of which was at the CCHOA. And by
my estimation very well attended.
(much better that anything we got in
Scottsdale) And a similar survey was
presented at both and (posted online
and a formal request for responses
held open for 30 days) and did get a
very high response rate. With the
wide majority deciding that little to no
change to the park character was
good. My concern is that with your
first statement "We are concerned
that the interests of Cays residents
and homeowners may not have been
fully represented." you are trying to
overturn the first survey and public
meetings taken with this survey.
WRONG!!!! This is government at it
worst. If you do not get the answer
that you wanted "ask again" and
continue to ask until you get the
answer that you first wanted and
disregard all previous answers.
