“The Murdered do haunt their murderers. I believe I know that ghosts have wandered on

earth. Be with me always take any form- drive me mad! only do not leave me in this

abyss, where I cannot find you! oh god! it is unutterable! I cannot live without my life! I

cannot live without my soul!”

Wuthering Heights has been described as a Gothic novel which is a writing style that

combines horror and romance. This shows the gothic side to this story. Talking about

ghosts and souls brought elements of dark and haunting creating an evil and gothic feel

to the novel. “Wuthering Heights” had a lot of gothic parts to this story. Quite often it

featured supernatural encounters, graveyards, ghosts, desolate landscapes and

crumbling ruins. Haunted by ghosts and hallucinations, “Wuthering Heights” fits well

with the gothic theme. It is full of contradictions, which defies stable readings and is full

of unresolved puzzles, unexplained dreams and unquiet ghosts.
