Direction: Choose two kinds of poetry and write a poem according to its description.

A. Elegy

“Father’s Arm”

Innocent girl waiting for her sweets

Waiting patiently in the street
Waiting the whirring sound from behind
But no one will come for her to remind

That the sweet she’s waiting will never come

And the whirring sound will become
Solemn wind brought misery
Now how she will face the world uncertainty

The patient lady is still longing

Not on the sweet her dad always bring
But the arm who always there she’s missing
Her beloved father no longer living

Now who I will sing when you came home late

When I can hear your voice when I’m scared
Where I can find you when my boo boo’s ache
Where is your arm that makes me feel safe

Inspiration:
My inspiration in this poem is my father, he died when I was 6 years old in a motorcycle
accident. The whirring sound I meant is the sound of his motor when he is arriving home back
then. He always spoiled me with some sweets. And I always sang him “Bakit ngayon ka lang”
by Ogie Alcasid whenever he came back home from his duty as security guard somewhere in
NLEX. The boo boo on the 4th stanza means the wound I’ve got from playing before.
B. Haiku

“Falling leaves”

The tree is dancing

Swaying to the breeze of air
Branches felt empty

I hear falling leaves

Like your promised falling too
quickly wind is gone

Now I am growing
You came back for me to care
Like nothing happened?

Inspiration:
This poem is inspired from my past relationship. Like a tree, I always get along with him
whatever he wanted to do. But then as time passed through, I felt empty. I choose to cut ties, and
find my peace and choose to grow alone.
