The clutch is controlled by an electrically operated solenoid valve.

To engage the clutch, oil pressure is applied at the aft side of clutch piston (10), which
presses the friction plates (5) and (6) together against the cover plate (4 and 2).

To release the clutch the aft side of the piston is drained to the gear sump, and springs
(7 and 8) on forward end of the piston, will move it back and release the plates.

To avoid clutch slippage and overheating a minimum clutch pressure (see data sheet) is
retained by means of the choke valve. Maximum clutch pressure is controlled by a
reduction valve which is adjusted to the valve stated on data sheet.

The clutch plates are lubricated by oil taken from the aft pinion bearing. The oil is
supplied through passages and small outlets in the hub (1). A restriction arrangement in
the pinion shaft, is providing the clutch plates with the correct amount of oil.

If the clutch after some time should begin to engage too roughly, this is probably caused
by dry plates due to blockage of the luboil passage. To rectify this check the clutch lub.
oil nozzle and clean properly.

This nozzle can be arranged on different ways for different gear sizes. See gear
assembly drawings.

If by some reason, the oil pressure should drop too low to engage the clutch, the
emergency coupling screws (spare parts) can be screwed in, and the plates be pressed
together. The clutch is now engaged, and the engine can be runned with reduced torque.
