In 1929 the American Radio Amateur Lorenz Windom W8GZ designed an off-center fed dipole antenna
which allows to obtain an almost constant IMPEDANCE on ALL Ham bands 160, 80, 40, 20 and 10 meters
. Feeding the dipole "off-centre" ensures that the antenna can be used conveniently, with acceptable SWR
on all bands, or rather "even harmonics" with respect to the frequency for which it was calculated. The
WINDOM has a typical impedance of 300 Ohm, therefore suitable for the TX operating at the time, to be
able to use it with our modern RTX with 52 Ohm output, a 6:1 Balun impedance transformer is interposed
for an impedance of 50 Ohm, or a 4:1 balun for a coaxial cable drop at 75 Ohm. Also in this case you can
make the BALUN in the most suitable way for you, in air on a plastic cylindrical support , on a ferrite rod
, or the classic well-known red toroid T-200-2 . The WINDOM is a classic in the amateur radio world, a
very easy antenna to build and has the great advantage of being able to operate all the AMATEUR
RADIO BANDS with a single RADIANT element, such as a radiator, a very normal 1.5 mm electric wire.
