QN: Explain the different types entrepreneurs citing where they are most likely to be found.

Definition
The term “Entrepreneurship ’’ is a creative and innovative response to the environment.
Types of entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurship as an activity has a number of people involved in business operations for profit
making. They include the following;

1. Innovative entrepreneurs
These are the ones who are said to start business operations by being creative and later combining
a variety of information through assembling a range of factors so as new products and services.
Such people become innovative through the following;
 Developing a new product or introducing a new quality of an existing product
 Developing a new way of delivering an existing product, therefore fetching a different
price tag.
 Developing a new way of informing the consumers about the new product e.g improved
ways of advertising like electronic adverts
 New way of organizing a company e.g from manual to capital intensity.
Application: under developed industrial based areas
2. Imitative entrepreneurs
They are sometimes called adoptive entrepreneurs. These copy or adopt successful
innovations created by innovative entrepreneurs.
Application: petrol stations, supermarkets, and boutiques.
3. Opportunistic entrepreneurs
These entrepreneurs constantly work for and exploit any opportunities that come their
way. Because of this initiative, they tend to change their scales or operations by changing
their size that is; from small to medium and later large companies. They are therefore
dynamic.
These entrepreneurs can be both:-
1. Growth oriented; this entrepreneur pursues opportunities to maximize the potential
changing in size.
2. Independent oriented; these entrepreneurs main ambition is to work for them. However,
this is achieved through stable growth.
Application: grain milling plants
4. Craft man entrepreneur
These entrepreneurs are less interested in profit and are more concerned with earning
stable living from their specialist skills. They also get economic benefits through
enriching such possessed unique skills they hold e.g sportsmen, genuine people etc.
Application: small carpentry workshops.
5. Drone entrepreneurs
These entrepreneurs may not be identified as real business people (entrepreneurs) because
they are not interested in taking any risks. They don’t like change and they first follow
their predecessors’ first steps. They are laggards as they over lag behind.
Application: inherited businesses
6. Fabian entrepreneurs
These people are very cautious when taking any changes as regards their business
management. They are slow to act when making changes. They are skeptical i.e highly
inquisitive by acting.
Application: schools
7. Co-preneurs entrepreneurs
These co-own and manage business with their spouses (husband-wife business)
Application: retailer shop

8. Intra – corporate entrepreneurs


These possess entrepreneurial skills operate within an organizational setting but they
don’t own it.
Application: professional managers

9. Social entrepreneurs
These are entrepreneurs who identify a social problem and devise a social solution.
Application: Areas lacking social facilities such as schools
10. Women entrepreneurs
These are a group of women who initiate, organize and operate a business enterprise. And
they are usually confident, creative and innovative women, desiring for economic
independence individually and simultaneously creating employment.
Application: Women association e.g Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association (UWEA)
which was established in 1987.
11. Youth entrepreneurs
These are entrepreneurs who enter the business field at a youth age e.g 18-30 years.
Application: youth livelihood business venture e.g association of rearing animals.

12. Push entrepreneurs


They are entrepreneurs who move from the rural area to urban areas because of the
unfavorable circumstances in the rural areas.
Application: factories looking for a wide market.

13. Pull entrepreneurs


They are entrepreneurs who are attracted by the conducive atmosphere in the urban areas.
Application: Hawkers
