Objective of the project report
The objective of analyzing the given sample of commercial
antacids is to determine their effectiveness In neutralizing
HCL . This analysis aim to quantify and compare the antacids
to abilities to neutralize acids ,providing valuable insights into
their potential therapeutic use and guiding consumers and
healthcare professionals in making informed choices
regrading antacids products .
Aim:
The analyzing thr given samples of commercial antacids by
determining the amount of hydrochloric acid they can
neutralize
Introduction:
It is well known that food we take undergoes a series of
complex reaction within the body which constitute
digestion and mechanism . These reaction are catalyzed by
enzymes which are very specific in their action and can
function properly only when the pH of the medium is
within a specific range .
Some enzyme required mildly alkaline condition while
other operate only in weakly acidic media . The enzymes
control the digestion of proteins present in the food as it
reaches the stomach . In the stomach , diluted hydrochloric
acid is secreted and it provides mildly acidic condition
required for the functioning of protein digesting enzymes
in stomach .
Gastric acid is a digestive fluid , formed in stomach . It has
pH of 1.5 to 3.5 and composed of 0.5% hydrochloric acid .
It is produced by cells lining the stomach ,which are
coupled to system to increases acid production when
needed .
Other cells in the stomach produces bicarbonate to buffer
the acid ,ensuring the pH does not drop too low (acid
reduces pH).Also cells in the beginning of the small
intestine ,or duodenum ,produces large amount of
bicarbonate to completely neutralize any gastric acid that
passes further down in to the digestive track . The
bicarbonate-secreting cells in the stomach also produce
and secrete mucus. Mucus forms a viscous physical barriers
to prevent gastric acid from damaging the stomach.
