5. When concentrated Sulphuric acid, H2 SO4 and common table salt, NaCl, are
heated, a volatile HCl vapor is produced.
The reaction is shown in the equation given below:

2NaCl(s) + H2SO4(ℓ) HCl(g) + Na2 SO4(s)

In this reaction, sodium sulphate ( Na2 SO4 ) is a waste product.

Calculate the atom economy for this reaction.

7. Zinc is a transition metal grouped with Cadmium and Mercury.

(i) Write the electron configuration of Zinc using s, p, d notation. (1 mark)

(ii) Determine the four quantum numbers for the 5th electron of Zinc. (2 marks)

8. The following experimental procedure was carried out to determine the strength of
hydrogen bonds.
Step 1 Equal volumes of 10ml of ethanol and cyclohexane was taken in
separate test tubes. The temperatures of the liquids were measured.
Step 2 Contents from the two test tubes were then poured together in a
separate test tube.
Step 3 The temperature of the mixed sample of liquids was then
measured and recorded.

(i) State whether heat energy is released or absorbed during the mixing process. (1 mark)

(ii) Provide an explanation for your answer to part (i). (2 marks)

10. A group of year 13 chemistry students conducted an experiment to determine the


molar mass of a volatile liquid by the modified Dumas method and obtained the
following data:

diagram below to determine the molar enthalpy of combustion for pentane, C5 H12 .

The following data were recorded when a sample of pentane was burned.

9. A 0.0484 molL-1 potassium permanganate (KMnO 4) solution was titrated against


25.00 mL of iron (II) sulphate solution which required 15.80 mL of potassium
permanganate solution from the burette for a complete reaction. The reaction is
shown in the equation given below.

A solution containing 18.50g of AgNO3 was mixed with a solution containing
