Appellant - a person who applies to a higher court for a reversal of the decision of a
lower court.
Condonation - a defence argument sometimes made when an accuser has previously forgiven
or chosen to ignore an act about which they are now legally complaining.
curatrix ad litem - a legal representative in Scots law and Roman-Dutch law appointed by a
court to represent, during legal proceedings, the best interests of a person who lacks the mental
capacity to make decisions for themselves.

Ex parte - done with respect to or in the interests of one side only or of an interested
outside party. In law, ex parte is a Latin term meaning literally "from/out of the party/faction of",
thus signifying "on behalf of". An ex parte decision is one decided by a judge without requiring all
of the parties to the dispute to be present.

Held- Decided or ruled, as in "the court held that the contract was valid."

actions of its members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties.

pater est quem nuptiae demonstrant maxim - This maxim means “He is the
father whom the nuptials point out, or whom marriage indicates.” All children
born in wedlock are presumed to be the legitimate children of the husband and
wife, but this is a presumption which may be re-argued. This maxim has no
application in the case of a child born out of wedlock, but whose alleged father
subsequently married its mother.
Provision- a clause in a legal instrument, a law, etc., providing for a particular matter;
stipulation; proviso.
Religion - the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal
God or gods
Reparation - the action of making amends for a wrong one has done, by providing
payment or other assistance to those who have been wronged.
rule nisi - an interim order granted by a court when the person against whom the
order is made, must on a return court date, come to court to give evidence as to why
a final order in that specific matter should not be made.
