Abrasives are used in the form of grinding wheels, sandpapers, honing stones, polishes, cutoff
wheels, tumbling and vibratory mass-finishing media, sandblasting, pulpstones, ball mills, and
still other tools and products.
Abrasives are extremely commonplace and are used very extensively in a wide variety of industrial,
domestic, and technological applications. This gives rise to a large variation in the physical and
chemical composition of abrasives as well as the shape of the abrasive. Some common uses for
abrasives include grinding, polishing, buffing, honing, cutting, drilling, sharpening, lapping,
and sanding (see abrasive machining). (For simplicity, "mineral" in this article will be used loosely to
refer to both minerals and mineral-like substances whether man-made or not.)
TYPES OF ABRASIVES
Commonly abrasives are a hard material. It can be used to cutting or wear away other materials. Mainly Small
abrasive grains are used in grinding wheels. They are called abrasive grains.
Abrasives are classified into broad categories. Below is a detailed structure for the classification of abrasives.
7. FIBER DISC
A fiber disc is a grinding wheel made of vulcanized fiber along with backing. It is covered with resin and
abrasive grains on one side. It is fitted with a backing pad, and an angle grinder is attached. The fiber disc is
widely used for machining metals.
8. POLISHING PADS
Polishing pads are used to remove small car and truck scratches and dents. Usually, it is used to buff out the
damage and add shine to the surface. They come in various finishes, forms, designs, and sizes. To get optimal
outcomes, the pad should be used with the polishing compound.
