BAKING TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

MEASURING CUPS

-A measuring cup is a kitchen utensil used primarily to measure the volume of liquid or bulk solid
cooking ingredients such as flour and sugar, especially for volumes from about 50 mL (2 fl oz)
upwards.

GLASS MEASURING CUPS

-Liquid measuring cups are usually glass or plastic with a handle. They allow you to pour a liquid into
the cup and bring it even with a measurement line without spilling. Dry measuring cups, on the other
hand, hold the exact amount of an ingredient and should be leveled off with a flat edge.
MEASURING SPOONS

-A measuring spoon is a spoon used to measure an amount of an ingredient, either liquid or dry, when
cooking. Measuring spoons may be made of plastic, metal, and other materials. They are available in
many sizes, including the teaspoon and tablespoon.

MIXING BOWLS

-A mixing bowl is a deep bowl that is particularly well suited for mixing ingredients together in.
These come in many materials, such as stainless stell, ceramic, glass, and plastic.
MIXING SPOON

-The Kitchen Tools Mixing Spoon makes it easier for you to mix batter or other foods with a thick
consistency because the hole in the center allows the mixture to flow through, giving less resistance.
The sharp edge scrapes the mixture from the edges of the mixing bowl or casserole dish for thorough
mixing.

CUTTING KNIFE

-A utensil that has a handle and a blade that may or may not be sharp-edged. Available in a wide
variety of different types and sizes, a knife is used for cutting, chopping, dicing, slicing, mincing,
peeling, separating, and other kitchen tasks where the thin metal shaft of a blade is of value for food
preparation.

RUBBER SCRAPER
-Scrapers in the culinary world are exactly that: tools that were made to scrape pastes, batters,
and other ingredients from bowls, plates, and other surfaces. A rubber scraper is handy in the kitchen
since it can mold to the shape of the bowl or whatever container you are using to get every last bit
out.

FLOUR SHIFTER

-A kitchen utensil with a mesh bottom used to sift dry ingredients, such as flour or powdered sugar.
The most common Sifters are built with a trigger in the handle that is activated to move back and
forth in order to push and pull the dry contents through the mesh sieve in the bottom of the Sifter.

ROLLING PIN
-This is a long, thin cylinder used to flatten dough into sheets, rolling it out on a wooden or marble
board. It has two handles on the side, making it easier to use. It can be made of wood or plastic.

BAKING PANS

-A sheet pan, also referred to as baking tray, baking sheet, or baking pan, is a flat, rectangular metal
pan placed in an oven and used for baking pastries such as bread rolls, cookies, sheet cakes, Swiss
rolls, and pizzas.

COOKIE SHEET
-a flat rectangle of metal with at least one rolled edge used especially for the baking of cookies or
biscuits.

CONVENIENCE UTENSILS

SPATULA

-A spatula is a broad, flat, flexible blade used to mix, spread and lift material including foods, drugs,
plaster and paints. In medical applications, "spatula" may also be used synonymously with tongue
depressor.

PASTRY CLOTH AND ROLLING PIN COVER

-Pastry Cloth is made of a specially treated material that resists grease and moisture and has the
necessary stiffness for rolling-out doughs. The edges are finished for added durability and to prevent
fraying. Measures 25" x 20"-Rolling Pin Cover is made of a thick woven cotton material that resists
grease and moisture. Measures 18" in length and fits over most rolling pins.

KITCHEN KNIFE AND CHOPPING BOARD

-Having a good and sharp knife is one of the most important tools in the kitchen. This is not just for
productivity, but also for safety (see section “Knife Handling and Chopping Techniques” here). Knives
need to be your best buddies in the kitchen, and this is why it is vital to carefully select what knife to
use and to take good care of them (clean them beforehand, keep them sharp, etc.).

KITCHEN SHEARS
-A kitchen tool, specifically made for food preparation, that is more versatile than a standard pair of
cutting scissors. This utensil is made with a plastic or rubber coated handle which are often textured
allowing for ease of cutting and gripping. The blades have a notch for cutting through poultry joints.

PARING KNIFE

-A thin-bladed knife intended for coring and paring (peeling) fruit such as apples as well as slicing
small ingredient it is majorly used for detailed & controlled cutting.

GRATER OR SHREDDER

-A grater, also known as a shredder, is a kitchen utensil used to grate foods into fine pieces.
ELECTRIC MIXER

- a device for mixing ingredients which is powered by electricity.

WEIGHING SCALE
-A weighing scale is a device that is used to determine weight. Weighing scales can be divided into
two primary types: spring scales and balances. Spring scales measure weight using Hooke's Law, which
deforms in proportion to the weight placed on the load-receiving end.

BISCUIT AND DOUGHNUT CUTTER

-Donut cutter converts into a cookie/biscuit cutter by removing the center piece. Also use for Linzer
cookies with cut-out, tarts, cutting bread, jello, pastries and more. Made of aluminum. Hand washing
recommended.

PASTRY BLENDER
-A pastry blender and pastry cutter are different names for the same handheld tool used to cut butter
into flour for pastry dough. This tool features a series of metal strips or wires looped around and
connected to a handle.

PASTRY BRUSHER

-a small, flat brush for coating pastry with butter, egg, etc.

PASTRY WHEEL
-A kitchen utensil used for cutting pastry dough as it is being formed and prepared for baking. This
tool can consist of a single wheel or two small wheels that are wooden or metal (stainless steel or zinc
alloy), attached to a handle. One wheel has a straight edge for scoring, marking, and straight cutting
the dough.

COOLING RACK

- A cooling rack (also known simply as a wire rack) is used to allow air to circulate freely to cool baked
goods, and to prevent them getting soggy from condensation. A tight grid is typically the best format
for a cooling rack, to prevent thin baked goods from breaking or falling through.

TIMER
-A timer is a specialized type of clock which is used to measure time intervals. A timer that counts
from zero upwards for measuring time elapsed is often called a stopwatch. It is a device that counts
down from a specified time interval and used to generate a time delay, for example, an hourglass is a
timer.

BAKING EQUIPMENT

OVEN

- oven is a tool which is used to expose materials to a hot environment. Ovens contain a hollow
chamber and provide a means of heating the chamber in a controlled way. In use since antiquity, they
have been used to accomplish a wide variety of tasks requiring controlled heating. Because they are
used for a variety of purposes, there are many different types of ovens. These types differ depending
on their intended purpose and based upon how they generate heat.
MICROWAVE OVEN

-Microwave ovens heat food using microwaves, a form of electromagnetic radiation similar to radio
waves. Microwaves have three characteristics that allow them to be used in cooking: they are
reflected by metal; they pass through glass, paper, plastic, and similar materials; and they are
absorbed by foods.
COOKING RANGE

-A kitchen range, also called a stove, is the classic cooking appliance that you'll find in many American
kitchens. It combines an oven for baking, roasting and broiling with a stovetop/cooktop for boiling,
searing and sauteing.
