Objective
Perform hypothesis testing -
For Age vs Covid 19 Deaths in
Maharashtra
For Gender vs Covid 19 Deaths
Stating the null and alternate
hypothesis Hypothesis 1: People over the age of have a higher death
rate due to COVID-19 than those under the age of 45.
Alternate Hypothesis : The alternate hypothesis for this
study would be that there is no significant difference in the
death rates of individuals above and below the age of 45
due to COVID-19 in Maharashtra.
This is a one tailed test.

Hypothesis 2 : Mortality rate in females during Covid-19 is

more than males.
Alternate Hypothesis : There is no significant difference in
the death rates due to COVID-19 between males and
females in Maharashtra.
Steps followed

Following is an example of how data of

four different years was used to perform
hypothesis testing for both cases.
Results - Conclusion
Upon stating the alpha level as 0.05,
z- score was calculated which came out to be 3 for case 1.
And for case 2, the z- score was calculated to be -0.34.

Therefore, as we can see that the hypothesis 1 was rejected whereas

in case 2 it was not rejected/accepted.
Similar testing was performed for the dataset of each year from 2020
to 2023.
