Indigenous People Rights

Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) face grave

violations of their fundamental rights, including ancestral land, self-governance, social
justice, human rights, and cultural integrity.

ICCs/IPs experience violations of their ancestral land rights due to encroachment and
resource exploitation without consent. This jeopardizes their traditional lifestyles and the
environment. Limited self-governance and empowerment result from their exclusion in
decision-making processes, perpetuating social injustices. Their human rights are
infringed upon, especially the right to a safe environment. Cultural erosion threatens
their identities.

To rectify these issues, respecting territorial rights and securing informed consent for
land projects are vital. Empowering ICCs/IPs through participation in decision-making,
improved education, healthcare, and economic opportunities is essential. Policies
ensuring equal representation and protection of their interests must be implemented.
Preserving cultural integrity requires educational programs and initiatives. Promoting
cultural respect and exchange fosters appreciation and understanding of indigenous
identities.

To safeguard ICCs/IPs' rights, governments, corporations, and civil society should

collaborate, implementing legal safeguards, education, and cultural preservation efforts.
This collective action will ensure the well-being and self-determination of indigenous
communities, creating a more equitable and inclusive world for all.
