Dr. Husein ef. Kavazović is Raisu-l-Ulama and the Grand Mufti of The Islamic community in
Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina is one and only community of Muslims
in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sanjak, Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia, Bosniak Muslims
outside their homeland and other Muslims who accept it as their own.
His Eminence Husein ef. Kavazović was born on 3rd July 1964 in Gradacac. He comes from a
family that is traditionally ulema, with a large number of imams and hafeez.

He completed elementary school in his hometown and studied traditional Islamic studies with
his uncle. He continued his training at Gazi Husrev-bey Madrassa in Sarajevo, where he
received the title of imam and khatib.

From 1985 to 1990 he studied Islamic law at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, and
completed his master and doctoral studies at the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo.

During the war in BiH he was involved in the defense of the country and his hometown. In
1993 he was elected to the position of the Tuzla Mufti.

In the same year he was captured and taken to the Bosnian Croat paramilitary concentration
camp who later surrendered him to Bosnian Serb prison where he was imprisoned for seven
months.

In 2012 he was elected to the position of the Raisu-l-Ulama of The Islamic Community in
Bosnia and Herzegovina, the highest religious authority of Bosniaks in Bosnia and
Herzegovina and the world.

During his mandate as the Raisu-l-Ulama, The Islamic Community in Bosnia and
Herzegovina has introduced changes to its Constitution and significant reforms in many
aspects of the Community's activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, homeland countries and the
diaspora. He has maintained constant contact with believers on all significant occasions, in
Bosnia and Herzegovina, homeland countries and the diaspora.

He played the key role in supporting the return of refugees and establishing a memorial
center for victims of Genocide in Srebrenica.

Spreading the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica and Bosnia has become his personal
quest during his position both as Mufti of Tuzla and the Raisu-l-Ulama.

infrastructure of The Islamic Community, waqufs and Muslim homes that were destroyed
during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He has been awarded numerous awards, including those of an honorary citizen and man of
the year.
