Assalamualaikum …… good afternoon honorable judges, members of

the opposing team and audience. I am Shahariyar Rahman areeb

from year 9 silver. I feel honored to have been allowed to put forward
my view on the topic “Artificial Intelligence is good for the human
race”. I'm aware of the impact of Artificial Intelligence in our society or
better yet, on the world in a wider aspect. But I stand here to strongly
oppose it.
To begin with, the risk of A.I. surpassing humanity in intellect (also
known as ‘super intelligence’), is dangerous and beyond the control of
human beings. As Elon Musk said,” AI is far more dangerous than nukes”.
It can also lead to an ‘intelligence explosion’ which is a theory that
states the eventual results of work on general A.I., which, leads to a
singularity where an artificial superintelligence surpasses the
capabilities of human cognition. It is quite apprehensive that A.I. will
overtake human interventions by being much smarter.

Moreover, the ability to create a machine that can simulate human

intelligence is no small feat as it requires plenty of time and resources
and can cost a huge deal of money. AI also needs to operate on the
latest high-end tech to meet its latest requirements, thus making it
quite costly. Furthermore, with regards to operating A.I., it is
paramount that it be handled by software specialists or programmers,
who assemble, and trial the advanced computer programs are difficult
to find and expensive to hire.

Conclusion:

All being said, I would like to conclude with the famous quote of the
legendary physicist Stephen Hawking: “Success in creating effective
Artificial Intelligence will be the biggest event in the history of our
civilization. So, we can’t know if we will be infinitely helped by Artificial
Intelligence or ignored by it and sidelined or destroyed by it.”
