1. What colour is the band on a halon fire extinguisher?

- Green

2. What is required if a screwdriver is going to be used for electrical work?

- Handle has to be made of fluted wood or composite material.

3. What is the relationship between the width of the blade of a screwdriver and the screw?

-width of blade is the same as diameter of head of screw.

4. What would a parallel punch be used for?

- to completely drive out item from its hole.

5. List 4 pre-use checks on a pillar drill.

-Correct PPE

-Calibration stickers

- have authorisation to use the drill

-know how to turn off the drill in emergencies

6. If you were going to drill a piece of steel what would you use as a holding device?

- Vice

7. What are the two types of drill that can be used in a pillar drill, one might be 10 mm, one
might be 25 mm.

-hand operated chucks and key operated chucks*

8. Which regulations must be followed when using grinding wheels?

-1970 Abrasive Wheel Regulation No.535

9. How is a grindstone classified?

-shape, diameter, width, arbor hole size, abrasive material, grit size, grade and bond.

10. What are the two types of abrasive used in a grindstone?

-aluminium oxide and silicon carbide

11. Items to be ground must be supported, but what direction must the grindstone rotate in?
Downwards, or upwards?

-upwards
12. What is the advantage of air powered tools and how can the drill speed be controlled?

Speed control and safe to use when near electrical cables. Speed control achieved by varying trigger
pressure.

13. What type of motor is driven by air in a pneumatic drill?

- vane type air motor unit.

14. What is the maximum SWG of sheet steel that a Nibbler can cut, and what size hole must be
drilled to allow access for the Nibbler?

- not exceeding 20 SWG, hole must be 3/8 in. of a template and can be turned in a radius of one
inch.

15. Who is responsible for read the Organisations Health and Safety Policy and Regulations?

- People involved in Pt 145 organisation.

16. What is a Crowfoot spanner used for?

- This spanner is used to access areas that are considered to be not possible to reach with other
spanners.

17. What two type of rivets can be milled using a Rivet Miller?

-NACA type countersunk rivets and Avdel rivets.

18. What does the spring, fitted to a pneumatic riveting hammer prevent?

-snap being driven out of the gun.

19. How can you minimise the work hardening of a rivet as you use a riveting hammer?

- rivet is driven with as few blows as possible.

20. How is waste fuel disposed of?

- in a metal container, sprung loaded lid.

21. What size of taper is a morse taper, and which part of a parallel twist drill is slightly raised to
provide clearance?

-morse tapers have a taper of 1 in 20 and run in sizes from 0 to 7*. The part is Land.

22. What do the flutes do on a twist drill and what is the cutting angle?

- flutes provide room for escape pf chippings. 59 degrees.

23. List the four ways in which drills are sized.

-fractional sizes

- number drills in sizes corresponding to steel wire gauge sizes no.1 to no.80, followed by letter drills.

-metric sizes in mm.(from 0.32 mm to 100mm)

-decimal diameters.
24. Which of the following s adjustable, a Washer Cutter, or a Hole Saw?

-washer cutter.

25. What are the three angles of countersinking tool?

90, 100 and 120.

26. What are Slow and Quick Helix drills used to cut holes in?

Aluminium for quick, brass and bronze for slow.

27. What is the maximum amount of metal a reamer can widen a hole by?

-for holes up to ½” diameter, allowance is between 0.003” to 0.007”.

28. What lubricants can be used during reaming and what direction is the reamer turned in
when it is being REMOVED?

- rotate reamer in cutting direction during removal, cutting lubricants used.

29. What is the standard taper on a Tapered Reamer?

- 1 in 48

30. How do you adjust an adjustable reamer, and how is the size of the reamer measured once
it has been adjusted?

- adjustment can be made by slackening one nut and the other tightened by same amount to move
blades along their slots. Size of the reamer measured with a micrometer if reamer has an even
number of blades.
