In the works of Jose Rizal’s, particularly in his novels (El Fili Busterismo & Noli Me Tangere) it exposes the abuses that is
perpetrated by the Roman-Catholic priests particularly the Spaniards, against the Filipinos. If you’d think about it, the Noli
Me Tangere was a wake-up call for the Filipinos as Rizal’s literature would describe the colonization of the Spaniards in the
country, and how they had badly treated the Filipinos as some of the character’s role in the literature would depict the
Filipino’s fight for freedom and those who reigned in the Philippines during the time. Rizal criticized the Spaniard’s religious
orders’ wealth, holding on ministries, property control, abuse to justice, and the rough handling to the Filipinos in their own
land. He’d call attention to how the Philippine’s society had become a breeding ground for corruption. We’d read how Rizal’s
life would only be centered on his beloved country, his thoughts, actions, and his ultimate reality and meaning would revolve
around his homeland. On Rizal’s writings, it was mostly inspired on his family, his beliefs, his interest with the world, culture
and languages, and his pursuit for justice. However, his focus where primarily on the Philippines. His novels and poetry
would aim to address the nation’s issue and would try to insinuate solutions.
2. Jose Rizal had greatly played as the Philosophy of Liberalism in our country, as his political writings had inspired the
Philippine revolution which had also led to his execution by the Spaniards, and lifted our country’s socio-political condition
during the Spanish period. Rizal has been the Filipino’s instrument towards the struggle for independence and an inspiration
to the Philippine nationalist movement. In Accordance to his novel Noli Me Tangere it had encouraged us Filipinos to reflect
on our actions and beliefs of our country. The novel tells a lot about how we Filipinos should promote nationalism and to
accept change. That we must patronize our country to respect our law, promote our own culture, and help each other to
improve the country. This work of him also awakened Filipino’s national consciousness and inspired a sense of identity and
pride. Even for the El Fili Busterismo, it was also written with the intention to encourage us Filipinos to fight for our
independence and aimed to enlighten our minds and expand it. These two novels are still being taught in schools in order
for us Filipinos to fend off repeating the history itself, it also promotes devotion for our country, and the empowerment to the
youth as the catalyst for change for our country. Rizal had aimed for us to be a true Filipino, to discover our true selves and
our goals that’ll make our country flourished. Rizal is a pendant to his fellowmen to fight against colonizers and served as a
reminder to our history.
3. As the national hero of the Philippines, Jose Rizal, played an important role on the Philippines’ nationalist movement in his
day. While he and other Filipino leaders of that period shared the desire to be free of the hands of the Spaniards, he was
not completely of the same view on nationalism and patriotism as some of his colleagues. Rather than using force to bring
about change, he thought that it could be accomplished through legal, educational, and enlightening methods. He
encouraged the idea of nonviolent democracy by exposing the injustices and wrongdoings done during the Spanish rule
through his literary works like Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. His principles, especially his commitment on
nonviolent change and education, played a major role in the growth of Filipinos' nationalism and prepared the way for future
changes of the independence movement.
4. Jose Rizal had a significant influence on the development of the Filipino people's social and political consciousness in his
day. For a number of reasons, various sections of society found sympathy with his ideas. He pushed for patriotism and
urged Filipinos to take pride in their culture. He demanded that the clergy be converted, that Filipinos and Spaniards be
treated equally, and that a just and fair system be put in place. His revolutionary views were persuasive to those who
wanted to make improvements within the current system. His social and political ideas created an impact with the Filipino
people of the time because they addressed the important issues of the day, offered an optimistic perspective for the future,
and gave the people a feeling of unity and purpose.

1. The circumstances surrounding Rizal's retraction focused on the question of whether or not he actually retracted his views
on the Catholic Church and its practices. Jose Rizal was a well-known Filipino nationalist and writer who lived in the late
19th century. During the time that Rizal was ordered to be detained by the Spanish government, He was in a cell for 24
hours before his impending death. And the circumstances before his death were scrutinized because that was the time that
Rizal allegedly re-embraced Catholicism and removed himself from Masonry (an organization that promotes brotherhood,
decency, integrity, and professionalism). The retraction was said to have been witnessed by a priest, but its authenticity and
credibility have been doubted ever since. We can infer that the impact of the retraction on Rizal’s legacy is still significant,
but it did not diminish Rizal’s identity as a national hero in the Philippines who contributed to voice out his country's struggle
for independence and to promote Filipino identity. Some people may say that if the retraction were true, it could be seen as
a betrayal of the very ideals he supported, potentially lowering his status as a symbol of Filipino nationalism and resistance
against colonialism.
2. As mentioned in some of Rizal’s works, it was revealed that he showed tendencies towards anti-Catholicism as he viewed
the friars as abusers who wield their power and authority through the religion. If he genuinely re-embraced his Catholic side,
then it would go against his morals and beliefs. Although it will absolutely have no effect on his status as a nationalist hero
as it has nothing to do with the revolution anymore, the one being affected was just his Catholic faith. To go through
retraction will go against everything Rizal believed in. But because of love, he may have done it. Josephine Bracken wanted
to be recognized as Rizal’s legitimate widow. So, they have to be married before Rizal dies. Or another reason would be the
persuasion of the priests that, without Catholicism, after death, one’s soul would be a wandering soul, not in heaven. Thus,
before death, Rizal has connected again with the religion he was born with. Previously, it was argued that those who
support the authenticity and credibility of the alleged retraction might be looking to weaken Rizal's legacy, while those who
deny it may be trying to preserve Rizal's image as an unwavering champion of Philippine independence, but either way,
Rizal was not alive anymore to prove what happened, as the scholars and historians were the only ones debating about the
retraction.
3. Rizal, a brilliant Filipino writer, embodied a strong sense of nationalism, opposing Spanish control and ensuring that
Filipinos supported his views. Despite emotional setbacks, he stayed dedicated to self-sacrifice. Rizal, like everyone else,
had flaws that led him to abandon parts of his convictions. His renunciation of his anti-Catholic position, which created
controversy, was one of his most prominent characteristics. The legitimacy of Rizal's retraction, which was signed by him
and witnessed by a priest, is still debated.
4. Jose Rizal's retraction is a contentious decision; it may have been a love rite as Josephine Bracken sought acceptance as
Rizal's true widow. To avoid punishment, the Catholic Church, which was strongly associated with Rizal's religious views,
may have repudiated him. The church's secrecy and the finding of the retraction years after Rizal's death imply that the
government had already resolved to execute Rizal, or that the church just wanted him to be executed
