Chad Wood Write Up

• What is my image of an educator and how did it come to be defined?

My image of an educator is slowly changing. Originally, I thought that an educator meant
to be a teacher in a classroom. But, seeing how Chad Wood was a teacher and
transitioned to a principal, shows how educator can mean many different things.
• What is my image of a “good” school and how did it come to be defined?
My definition of a good school is a place that students can go to learn and feel loved and
cared for. They should feel welcome in their school setting with teachers that are willing
to go above and beyond for them.
• What is the role of a Butler prepared educator and how did it come to be defined?
The role of a Butler prepared educator is someone who has all of the tools in their
toolbox to be successful in the classroom. A Butler prepared educator is a respectful
mentor, peer, and colleague.
• Do I know and understand the impact of my educational beliefs?
Yes I know the impact of my educational beliefs. I understand that all students do not
learn and think the same way, and that my peers may not want to teach the same way I
do.
• What might my place and my role be as an educator?
In the future, I would like to be an Occupational Therapist. So, my role would be to help
elementary aged students regain their independence and help with things such as low
muscle tone, hand eye coordination, and fine motor skills
• What is learning and how do learners know when it’s happening?
Learning is the gaining of knowledge about a topic. A learner knows when learning is
happening when they feel like they’ve progressed in their understanding of that topic.
• How do people (especially you) learn?
People learn in many different ways. For example, some are auditory learners, while
others are visual or kinesthetic learners. For me, I am a very visual learner. I need to have
people explain things to me by showing me how to do it.
• What is curriculum and where does it come from?
Curriculum is all of the topics that need to be covered in a certain subject. Also, it is all of
the subjects that are a part of a course of study in a school.
• What is the teacher’s role in schools?
A teacher’s role in a school is to foster an environment where students feel comfortable,
safe, and willing to learn. It is their job to educate the future generations and set them up
for success.
• What role does the community take in the education of children?
A community needs to be there for all students to support them in their educational
endeavors. For example, a community willing to donate money, books, or clothes to
students at a school to help fuel their learning.
• Do I want to be a teacher?
I do not want to become a teacher, as I want to become an occupational therapist.
• What does it mean to be a member of a professional learning community (PLC)-a
part of our class?
It means a lot to be a part of this class. I feel supported by all of my classmates and I am
excited to know that we all will become successful educators in the future.
• How connected am I feeling to the community of learners in this course, in my
major, in my other classes, and in extra and co-curricular experiences right now?
What is the impact of my connectedness?
I feel very connected to all of the people I work with on a daily basis. I feel comfortable
talking to everyone, asking questions, and working with them. The impact of my
conectedness is significant, as it gives me close friends, peers, colleagues, and professors
that I know I can always reach back out to in years to come.
• Have I really been doing the work in intentionally for my learning? Have I short-
changed my own learning in any way? Do I need to change anything in myself to
make this class better for me?
Yes, I feel as though I have been giving thoughtful responses in class discussions, in my write-ups, and
discussion posts. However, I could probably be better at listening more in depth to our guest speakers in
class and taking better notes.
