How to use this workbook

This workbook contains several examples of PivotTable reports, including the source data from which the reports were made. You can
follow the steps in the article 25 Easy PivotTable Reports to create these reports, and try out the commands on the PivotTable toolbar
and menu to learn about the ways you can customize a PivotTable report.

This workbook is set to print on most printers. Click Print on the File menu, click Entire Workbook under Print what, and then click
OK.

Example reports in this workbook

The PivotTable reports in this workbook were all based on the first report, Category Sales!PivotTable1. When you create several reports
from the same source data in the same workbook, basing them all on one report minimizes the size of the workbook and the amount of
memory used when you open it. The reports all behave independently, however: you can refresh, format, and change the layout of each
report separately.

The example reports in this workbook are formatted using the Report 5 format. Use the Format Report command on the PivotTable
toolbar to apply this format to your own reports.

When you click a report in this workbook, the PivotTable toolbar and the PivotTable Field List window should appear. If not, right-click
any toolbar and then click PivotTable to display the toolbar, and then click the Show Field List button at the right end of the toolbar to
display the field list.

Source data contains the original source records that provide the data values for the reports.

Category Sales lists the total sales for each product category.

Product Sales adds more detail: the total sales for each product, organized by category.

Top 3 Products identifies the three best-selling products within each category.

All Quarters breaks out the sales for each product and category by quarter.

Q1 & Q2 compares the sales for the first and second quarter.

Multiple Subtotals calculates additional summaries: the average, largest, and smallest sales for each category.

Average Sales provides the average sales amount for each product.

Chart contains a PivotChart report that represents the quarterly sales for each product category graphically. The instructions for creating
it are provided on a separate worksheet, the Chart Instructions sheet.

In this report and others in this workbook, the cents are rounded up to
whole dollars. To do that for a field that includes cents, double-click the
field, click Number, click Currency, and enter zero in the Decimal
places field. The report also has the Report 5 format: click the Format
Report button on the PivotTable toolbar to apply this format.

It's easy to focus the report on areas of interest. For example,

Steeleye Stout $5,707 for some of the categories. Do the same for the Product field.

You'll notice that the amounts for any categories you uncheck
Condiments are no longer included in the grand total, and the amounts for

The chart on the Chart sheet is a PivotChart report that provides a graphical representation of the summarized data used in the PivotTable
reports in this workbook. A PivotChart report has many features similar to a PivotTable report: you can change the layout, sort, filter, and
group the data.

To create a PivotChart report, run the PivotTable and PivotChart Report wizard, in step 1 select PivotChart (with PivotTable), and then
complete the steps of the wizard as you would for a PivotTable report. Or, if you already have a PivotTable report that you want to chart,
click the report and then click the Chart Wizard button on the PivotTable toolbar.

A PivotChart report always has a dependency on a PivotTable report that provides the data to be charted, called the associated PivotTable
report. When you make changes to a PivotChart report, its associated PivotTable report reflects the changes. To allow you to make
changes to the example PivotChart report without affecting any of the example PivotTable reports, the PivotChart report was created
independently from the source data. The associated PivotTable report for the example is hidden. If you want to see it, point to Sheet on
the Format menu, click Unhide, and then click Data for Chart.

A new PivotChart report always appears on a separate chart sheet, because PivotChart reports tend to include lots of data and therefore
usually need plenty of space. You can easily move a PivotChart report onto a worksheet, for example to put it on the same worksheet as
its associated PivotTable report. Just click the chart and click Location on the Chart menu.

You can use most of the chart type, formatting, and options available for regular charts to customize a PivotChart report. For more
