Activity Title: The Wonderful Wells Where’s Your Match Investigation

Materials Needed: Paper, tape, markers

How will you model your expectation for the activity?

- I will ask for a volunteer and the two of us will demonstrate how the activity should work

in a practice round.

Hook: I will start with the model so by the time we finish the modeling, they should understand

what the activity is.

Activity:

- Prepare word pairs like salt and pepper, ketchup and mustard, cars and trucks, etc. on

separate pieces of paper.

- Tape a piece of paper to the back of each student. They should not know what their word

is.

- To discover what their word is, the students will walk around the class and ask each

other yes or no questions about their words.

- Once the students discover their words, they will need to find their match.

- Once they find their match, they will ask each other questions until they learn at least

three things about each other.

- After each pair has had time to discuss, each group will tell the class something they

learned about their partner.

How will you modify it for students with special needs/language barriers/para support?

- Every two minutes, I will ask the students who have not discovered their word if they

would like a hint.

- I will write the words in multiple languages.

- If students are uncomfortable with having their word taped to their back, they can have

their word on a folded piece of paper that they can hand to the students they talk to.
Debrief:

- In an ideal situation, what will be accomplished?

- The students will talk to someone they haven’t spent much time talking to and

make a new connection with someone in their class. Hopefully the students have

fun while doing this.

- What might go wrong?

- Some students may have a hard time discovering their word or finding their

match. Some students might make incorrect matches or intentionally match with

their friend so they don’t have to talk to someone new.
