transported at room temperature. Some specimens must be transported on ice. For health care systems
with off-site facilities, transportation procedures should be developed to minimize delays, prevent
damage to specimens during transport, and prevent loss of specimen.

8. The Kato-Katz/Thick smear technique facilitates the detection and quantification of helminth eggs
that infected subjects pass in their feces. A thick smear is prepared on a microscopic slide and helminth
eggs are enumerated under a light microscope and recorded for each helminth species separately.
Subsequently, the prevalence and intensity of helminth infections can be determined.
