We have 0.8 =

Let x = 0.7 ¯

Subtracting (1) from (2), we get

Now, let y = 0.43 = 0.4333....¯

¯¯

∴ 10y = 4.3 .... (3)

¯

And 100y = 43.3 ....(4) ¯

Subtracting (3) and (4), we get

3. Which of the following is an irrational number?

A.
2

 (2√3 + √3)

 B. √135 × √15

C.
2

 (√2 − 2)

 D. (2 − √2)(2 + √2)

Option(c)
2

(2√3 + √3) = 27, hence a rational number.

√135 × √15 = 45, hence a rational number.

2

(√2 − 2) = (6 − 4√2) , hence an irrational number.

4. The length of the rectangular grazing field is (√5 + √3) units and the breadth is

(√5 − √3) units. Find the area of the rectangular field.

We are using this identity (√𝑎 + √𝑏) × (√𝑎 − √𝑏) = 𝑎 − 𝑏.

Area of a rectangle is (length×breadth).

Length = (√5 + √3)

Breadth = (√5 − √3)

Area = (√5 + √3) × (√5 − √3),

6. If y = √√7 + 7 + √8 + 2√7 − √7 , then the value of y will be:

 A. 1

 B. √7

 C. 8 − 2√7

 D. √7 − 1

Option(a)
using some identities,
8 + 2√7 = 1 + 7 + 2√7,
2

8 + 2√7 = 1 + (√7) + 2 × 1 × √7,

2

8 + 2√7 = (1 + √7) ,
√8 + 2√7 = (1 + √7) ,

y = √√7 + 7 + 1 + √7 − √7 ,
y = √1 + 7 + 2√7 − √7 ,
Again,
2

y = √(1) ,
2
+ (√7) + 2 × 1 × √7 − √7

y = √(1 + √7) − √7 ,
y=1 + √7 − √7 ,

7. √2+√3
Rationalising will give __________.
√3−√2

 A. 5 − 2√6

 B. 5 + 2√6

 C. 7 + 2√6

 D. 7 − 2√6

We rationalise the denominator by dividing and multiplying the number by √2 + √3.

So, we have
