● Chapter 11 - Tasks 2 & 3
Chapter 10:
1. What would be the advantages of selecting an Internet-based architecture for the
Personal Trainer’s system?

Selecting an internet-based architecture provides a ton of advantages. These

advantages include simplifying data transmission, lower hardware cost, lower complexity, and
easier scalability. As Personal Trainer grows and changes, the internet-based architecture can
grow and change as their needs change. In addition, internet-based architecture can provide
backup and recovery.

3. What software and hardware infrastructure will be necessary to ensure Personal

Trainer can process point of sale transactions?

Personal Trainer should use online processing systems in order to process point-of-sale
transactions. Online processing handles transactions when and where they occur and provides
output directly to users. Because it is interactive, online processing avoids delays and allows a
constant dialog between the user and the system. The online processing system would have to
take place on a physical device. This system would include a payment processing system, a
receipt printer, a barcode scanner, and a display screen. It would also be necessary to have a
wireless local area network so transactions can occur anywhere in Personal Trainer’s building
and be hooked up to the point-of-sale devices. Data storage is also necessary to record
transactions and inventory data. There also has to be a point-of-sale software system to utilize
on the POS terminal. In addition, there must be inventory management software to keep track of
sales and inventory. Finally, there must be security measures to protect payment data.

Chapter 11:
2. You have asked Gray Lewis to contribute to the user manual for the new system.
He suggested that you include a section of frequently asked questions (FAQs),
which you also could include in the online documentation. Prepare 10 FAQs and
answers for use in the printed user manual and context-sensitive Help screens.
1. What is the purpose of the new system?

Answer: The new system is designed to streamline operations and enhance the management of
Personal Trainer Inc. It will help with member management, class scheduling, billing, and
inventory control tasks.
2. How do I log in to the system?
Answer: You can log in by entering your unique username and password on the login screen. If
you don't have login credentials yet, please contact the system administrator. Remember that
the password is case-sensitive
.
3. Can I access the system remotely?
Answer: Yes, the system supports remote access. You can access it from any internet-
connected device by visiting the secure web portal. However, it can only be accessed if you
have the necessary credentials.

4. How do I schedule a fitness class for members?

Answer: To schedule a class, go to the "Class Schedule" tab and select the date and time slot.
Then, choose the type of class and assign an instructor. Save your changes to confirm the class
schedule.

5. How can I update member information?

Locate the member's profile, make the necessary changes, and save the updated information.

6. What payment methods are accepted for billing?

Follow the instructions to reset your password.

8. Is there a mobile app for the system?

Answer: We offer a mobile app for iOS and Android devices. You can download it from your
device's app store and log in using your credentials for convenient access.

9. How do I report a technical issue or bug in the system?

Answer: If you encounter a technical problem, please reach out to our dedicated support team
via email at support@personaltrainer.com or call us at 555-555-5555.

10. How often will system updates and enhancements be rolled out, and how will I be notified
about them?
Answer: System updates and enhancements are regularly scheduled to improve performance
and add new features. You will receive notifications through the system interface, email, or
announcements on our website to keep you informed about upcoming changes. We will also
inform you of when the downtime will be. Be sure to keep an eye out for these announcements.

3. Suggest a changeover method for the new billing system and provide specific
reasons to
support your choice. If you recommend phased operation, specify the order in which you
would implement the modules. If your recommendation is for pilot operation, specify the
department or area you would select as the pilot site and justify your choice

Phased operation would be my choice because it will reduce the risk of errors and
ensure that each module is fully functional before moving on to the next step. It also provides an
opportunity for staff to understand each module and train them progressively. It will help
minimize daily disruptions. The first module I would implement is member management. This is
to ensure that all member data is transferred accurately. It also provides the foundation for the
other modules. The next module I would implement is class scheduling, which is essential for
member engagement and it builds off of the member management module. The next module I
would implement is the billing and payment system. This also builds off of the member
management system and ensures that everything is paid for accurately. It is one foundational
module for the fitness center, so implementing it earlier is super important. Next, I would
implement inventory control. This is not as important of a module, so it can be implemented
towards the end. Staff can do manual inventory up until the system is running. Finally, I would
get analytics and reporting up and running to help monitor system performance. I would
implement this last because it will show all of the modules running together and uses
meaningful data to work with. This order is designed to minimize disruption to daily operations,
prioritize critical functionalities, and reduce the risk of errors during the transition.
