5 The diagram shows four ways in which molecules may move into and out of a cell. The dots
show the concentration of molecules.

The cell is respiring aerobically. Which arrow, A, B, C or D represents:

(i) Movement of oxygen molecules..........................

(ii) Movement of carbon dioxide molecules? .........................

6 (i) What does ‘partially permeable membrane’ mean?

(ii) Fill in the blanks to complete the definitions of diffusion and osmosis.

Diffusion is the spreading out of particles from a region of __________ concentration to a region of

__________concentration.

(iii) Give two examples of molecules which are too large to cross cell membranes by diffusion.
