The Impact of Drama Education in Enhancing Creative Thinking on Future Teachers in
Overcoming Language Barriers

Problem Statement

This research is a method to identify the importance and the impact of drama education for future
teachers. Hence, study The Impact of Drama Education in Enhancing Creative Thinking on Future
Teachers in Overcoming Language Barriers through fieldwork in the classroom.

This is also to describe the problem statement related to the issues and questions of the study. In
Malaysia, students come in many culture and races so imagine coming to class and not understand-
ing what a teacher have to say because how they speak at home may be very different. Some prefers
English and some prefers the Malay language but what about the students who can’t speak the two
language? They could understand but hard to communicate or speak it out loud. According to
Harmer (2007) defines human communication as a complex process. When little communication
takes place, interaction between students is insufficient to improve students’ speaking skill. Accord-
ing to Bada, Genc and Ozkan, 2011, Generally, Malaysian students require more practise because
real-life communication occurs more naturally. Teachers frequently overlook the speaking skill in
their education systems, even though it can lead to anxiety and a lack of confidence speaking.

Drama education has come to light as an effective means for aspiring teachers with little experience
in teaching to get past the obstacles of their first classroom experience. Drama methods and activi -
ties will benefit students as well as future teachers by strengthening their ability for creative think-
ing, critical thinking, adapting to a variety of learning environments, and successfully interacting
with students from a range of cultural backgrounds. However, little is known about how much
drama education actually develops prospective teachers' capacity for creative thought or how
specifically it affects their ability to get across language barriers. Students may come from different
cultural backgrounds, language barriers provide a serious struggle for some of them. Especially if
they live in a family where they only speak native language and never practice the national lan-
guage or at least English. The quality of education and the results of students may be negatively im-
pacted by these language obstacles since they might make it more difficult for teachers and them-
selves to participate in activities, communicate with teacher and other students, and understand one
another. Thus, there is an important need to look into innovative methods that can improve the abil-
ity for creative thinking of aspiring educators and provide them with the support they need to get
past language barriers in the classroom as sometimes new teachers would struggle with creative
block.

In this regard, the issue can be explained accordingly by the aim of the following study, which is to
determine how drama education influences future teachers' ability to overcome language barriers
through enhanced creative thinking. Thus, based on the study, it can be concluded that this research
is important and worthwhile, particularly for aspiring educators and learners of all ages. Therefore,
the purpose of this study is to explore how drama education might improve the creative thinking
abilities of aspiring teachers and potentially aid them in overcoming language barriers in the class-
room. The results of this study will help many other future teachers and will ultimately enhance the
standard of teaching and promote inclusive learning environments.

3. To explain innovative methods that can improve the ability to provide students with the sup -

port they need to get past language barriers in the classroom.
