Then ask each team member for their estimates of each task's duration

Also, ask each team member to estimate the risks involved in completing

This may include finding alternative activities or sequencing changes.
Encourage all participants to join in the discussions about resource

resources efficiently to manage costs and keep the project

on its tracks. Almost all organisations look for these project
management skills because they showcase your ability to
stay organised and communicate with team members,
especially when handling complex projects. Project
scheduling is just as important as cost budgeting as it
determines the timeline, resources needed, and reality of
the delivery of the project. Project managers that have
experience are better able to properly dictate the tasks,
effort and money required to complete a project.

Baseline PS variance(s):

Donna Chisholm reported that she has only received

confirmation from two of the speakers. She has tried
telephoning them but hasn’t been able to speak to the other
two yet. Donna asked for another two weeks extension for
finishing all of her tasks.
Unfortunately, we received a most apologetic telephone call
that the Park Royal’s Managing Director had already assured
a pharmaceutical company that they could book the venue
for the whole week-end, including the Friday.
Chollanan, the Manager Networks Marketing Manager, is still
waiting on the speakers, topics and venue before he can put
the promotional material together. He has spoken to the
printers, and they are still expecting to receive the brochure
soon, so they can be printed in time.
Proposed responses to the changes, and how these will maintain
the project objectives:

 Set deadlines for changes. Whether you use waterfall

or agile software development, set “freeze” windows
for your projects to give both IT and users time to

work with a new system.

 Deploy projects in stages. Along with step one,

arrange projects so it splits into alternating stages of
active development and change-freeze cycles where
systems are placed into production and allowed to
run change-free for a while.

 Explain the project methodology to the entire team.

IT project methodology has shifted over the years
from a traditional, more “tortoise” approach of
waterfall system development to the more rapid
“hare” approach of agile development.

 Touch base with project members. It is always sound

practice to manage while walking around–basically,
take time to personally touch base with project
members. This provides an excellent opportunity to
gauge how project members feel about a project.

 Never view a project as finished. Project managers

often feel the urge to make everything about a
project perfect the first time around, so they can end
a project once and for all.
