Dear Parents/Guardians,

Year 7 History Trip to the National Museum of Malaysia

On Wednesday 21st June, Year 7 TISS students will go on a History trip to the National Museum of
Malaysia. I am delighted to invite your son/daughter to join us. We are expecting all Year 7 students to
attend this curriculum enriching experience.

As Year 7 are currently studying the history of Malaysia in their History lessons, this will undoubtedly be a
very educationally stimulating and relevant learning experience. There are four different galleries in the
museum: 1) Prehistoric and Ancient Malaysia, 2) Malay kingdoms, 3) Colonial Malaysia and 4) Modern
Malaysia. Students will have the opportunity to explore each gallery, completing various treasure hunt
information capture activities. It will truly be a fantastic opportunity for the students to see the actual
artefacts on display, thus bringing their studies to life.

Students should arrive at school at the usual time. Mr O'Connell will then lead a workshop activity with the
Year group, preparing them for the trip and giving them the opportunity to curate their own history gallery
in groups. We will then depart by bus at approximately 09:00am for the museum. After spending the
morning in the museum, we will then have lunch in the beautiful Botanical Gardens, which is only a short
walk away. Here, students will have the opportunity to learn more about the different plants there as well
as different weather systems, a clear link to Geography classes. Then we will return to the museum for the
afternoon and depart for the school at 13:30pm in order to return the students in time to be collected at the
end of the day.

Students must wear school uniform as this is essential for our entry to the museum. Furthermore, students
should bring a packed lunch with them. They can take their bag with them into the museum, but I would
recommend not bringing a particularly heavy bag. Students can also bring some spending money if they
want to purchase food, drink, or gifts at the museum.
