Several factors make a successful manager, the environment that impacts decisions, the practices

from management that define the culture of their teams, the daily work interaction with operations and

projects, attached with communication styles that is required to address conflict and negotiate resolution.

It is important to understand in the modern organization the role that management plays in its

effectiveness, organizational behaviour as well as understanding the way people interact and behave in

the work environment.

The outcome of a business and management are affecting by the environment. Each of these

factors like competition, state of market and economic circumstances has an impact on the managers

strategies. According to Samson et al. (2021, p. 72) “the environment includes competitors, resources,

technology and economic conditions”, suggests that many factors even not perceived existing, not only in

the external environment, but also in the internal environment due to corporate culture that determine

the behaviour of employees. It is critical that managers understand the internal and external

environments that impact the organization. At Climatec Ar Condicionado, the external factor in the last

two years has impacted the entire company, including management, we were able to perceive the correct

actions to establish strategies due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We always use SWOT analysis to map the

factors - strengths, opportunities, weaknesses, and threats, in order to increase the knowledge of where a

business is standing in strategic terms. The environment analysis and actions for managers discussions by

Siberian Company show the same challenge with COVID-19 pandemic, but with a current world challenge

which is Russia's war against Ukraine as this company has marketing operations in Russia.

To guide a team to success is necessary apply the best practices from management. The different

theories must be analyzed in a way that identifies with the needs of the team, and they are used by the

manager to guide the team to success, so management theories are ideas and rules that guide how to act.

What I learned since my graduation was about classical theory of

management. The classic management have four steps called POLC: Planning, Organizing, Leading and

Controlling. Now I have known and studied the structure of Henri Mintzberg's theory, he explains that a

manager's job consists of 3 roles: intrapersonal roles, informational roles and decision-making roles and

this has opened my understanding and critical analysis further. The intrapersonal role is to have people

and the sense of duty involved; the leader then needs to have a connection with the team. The

informational role is when the manager receives, collects and disseminates information, is the

spokesperson. Finally, decisional role includes the entrepreneur, the disturbance handler, the resource

allocator and the negotiator in decision making. Always taking control into account to ensure that

everything is being executed well, if necessary, make corrections, so that everyone is engaged in the

process. These actions, already studied by specialists before, bring me enrichment of the knowledge of

the processes to be a better leader and be prepare myself.

Another relevant thing that was extreme important to me is how do project management and

operations management differ. During my experience at Sherwin Willians I was responsible for projects,

but the responsibilities needed more clarify and for me this part is extreme difficult to define despite the

skills are the same, in reality Identifying and addressing problems and opportunities is a challenge from

both, operations and project managers, even knowing that a project has a defined beginning and end, the

impacts of management also include the entire operation, for this reason in my analysis this is a point of

attention and future development as project management.

Finally, communication styles reinforce the importance of self-knowledge in order to persuade and

influence people. In group 4 analyzed, all were identified as the same style of communication. The main

skills are precise and clear communication style, with results oriented. Relationships are important, and

maintain those relationships is to exceed expectations by taking care of the team.

In conclusion, knowing the experience of the other participants in

the group, mainly from other countries with other cultures, was very important. I learned to critically

analyze the processes giving priority to the particularities of each person and environment.
