Read this passage and answer questions 46 to 50. (10 marks)

There was great excitement in the village. A school was going to

be set up by volunteers from an international aid organization. There

were fifty children in the village. Most of them were also of school-going

age.

Just after dawn, a lorry arrived with ten volunteers. Carrying wooden 5

planks, desks and chairs, they set about converting an abandoned

building at the edge of the village into a school. The building consisted

of a huge hall which the volunteers divided into three separate sections.

The walls were painted a bright yellow and posters with numbers and

letters were pasted on the walls. In every room, chairs and desks were 10

arranged in neat rows.

The work took the entire day. The volunteers worked nonstop,

resting only when it was time for lunch. They ate the lunch heartily. The

staples of vegetables and nuts were missing. The villagers gave them

a treat. It was a simple but delicious dish of deer meat. 15

At the end of the day, the school looked almost complete.

Electricity had already been installed beforehand. The children could

not wait to start school. They were looking forward to the arrival of their

teachers. The children at this school would not have to wear uniforms.

Some of them did not even have shoes. It was a free school. Even the 20

adults were welcomed to study with the children. Anyone who was

willing to learn was welcomed.
