Opportunities never cease for entrepreneurs with strategic minds

The great British entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson looks at the volatility in the
external environment of a business organization positively and believes that changes
create new opportunities for a company. Does his view hold for the volatile socio
economic volatility created by the global spread of COVID-19 pandemic? The
pandemic has shattered major industries like travel and tourism, international trade,
and investment in general. Sociologists believe that an unseen disaster is the
demoralized population and growing pessimism among people.

Tasks

1. Provide a factual account of the global socio economic impact of COVID-

19 and assess the influence of these global developments on the Sri
Lankan economy.
2. Provide a logical/ rational account of the Sri Lankan economy in the post
COVID-19 pandemic times
3. Identify a particular Sri Lankan industry (Ex. Travel and tourism) and
explain new potential opportunities the industry could capture due to the
scenarios developed in the previous two tasks. The potential to be captured
during the post pandemic era. You are advised to use one analytical model
such as Porter’s five forces model.
4. What strategies would you recommend for a single business organization
in the selected industry in terms of differentiation, positioning, managing a
new culture required, and new governance structure?

due to COVIC-19 pandemic is identified. New potential opportunities
are explained with the use of a model. (20%)
