Zero conditional
For – general truths and general habits.
If you add two and two you get four.

First conditional
Possible or likely things in the future.
If it rains later, we’ll get wet.
If you get home late I will be sleeping.

Second conditional
Impossible things in the present and unlikely things in the future.
If I won the lottery I would buy a Ferrari.

Third conditional
Things that didn’t happen in the past and their imaginary results.
If I had known it was your birthday, I would have bought you a present.
Add the following statements to the board and tell your students to use
conditional constructions to create sentences with a similar meaning.

1. You're unhealthy because you eat too much fast food.


2. They have no money because they don't have a job.
3. I lost the match because I played poorly.
4. He's always tired because he goes to bed too late.
5. We'll have to walk to work because we don't have a car.
Once they have finished, they should compare their answers with a partner.
