    December 2023 timetable summary

    North West
    Piccadilly-Buxton
    • The number of services on this route remains unchanged, but in the off-peak
    period the service will be operated as a two-car, rather than a four-car.
    • Four car operation remains at peak times.

    Bolton corridor: Blackpool North – Airport


    • All services are currently six car and from December there will be a mix of six
    car and four car services, based on when the quieter services are.

    Liverpool-Wigan
    • All services are currently run as four cars, and from December we will run a
    mix of three and four car services.

    Liverpool – Newton-le-Willows-Airport
    • Currently we run services with a mix of three and four cars. From December
    we will run some additional four car services based on where there are higher
    customer numbers.

    East
    Leeds – Carlisle
    • From December 2023 until March 2024, in advance of seasonal demand uplift
    at Easter, all services will be reduced to either two or three car, from a mix of
    three and four car.

    Penistone line
    • The capacity on this route has been increased through provision of three car
    on the majority of services. In December, one service (the 17:51 from
    Huddersfield to Sheffield) will be removed as it sits outside the standard
    hourly pattern.

    Huddersfield-Castleford
    • We have been advised by Rail North Partnership that TransPennine Express
    will take over this service to facilitate the TransPennine Route Upgrade
    diversionary route requirements.

    Doncaster – Leeds
    • Currently we run a four car service all day, which will be reduced in December
    to three car all day. Demand analysis has indicated the morning peak will see
    highly loaded services at three car. Therefore the Knottingley – Streethouse –
    Leeds service in the morning peak will be extended to four car, with an
    additional call at Outwood included, to deliver additional capacity.

    Bradford – Ilkley/Skipton/Leeds
    • We currently run four car services all day which will be reduced to a mix of
    three and four car.

    North East
    • The additional two hourly service being introduced once platform work is
    complete at Hartlepool will be part of the December 2023 timetable.
