“Citizenship” is my first selection. This piece was written for Composition II. It focused on being an
ethical citizen and took the position that we all should be ethical citizens. This essay is one of my
favorites. Being able to share my input has always been a favorite of mine. In this piece, my writing was
solid, and I nailed the format. I still need to work on my run-ons and sentence errors. It was well thought
that I have Improved a lot from this time last year. Being a responsible citizen to me would be to know
your right from your wrong, obeying the law & doing your duties. Right from wrong should be a
commonsense thought, "Should I steal"? Obviously not. Common Sense Right? Obeying the law would
be the same thing when it comes to stealing, but also with a lot more followed behind it. we have traffic
laws, must pay our taxes or we go to jail, men not allowed in the women's bathroom & vice versa. We
have so many rules that most do not even know if something is illegal or not, and that is where common
sense comes into play. Being your duties is the last part of being a responsible citizen for me, there are 2
sides. Local Duties: Being a good neighbor, doing a good deed for someone other than yourself, voting,
etc. It is not hard to be a good person, it is harder to be a bad citizen more so than it is to be a good one.
My mother has always said do good and good will come back to you. I wrote about citizenship and its
role in being a good neighbor, friend & its roles on duties and just how to be ethical. I chose to talk about
it because I feel it is important to know your role and ethics as a human on earth. and two, doing good so
that the good can come back to you. person is not hard; in fact, it is harder to be a bad and rude person.
I’ve never understood how anyone can be so angry, I feel as if someone is having a hard life or just a bad
day, always doing good for someone can benefit another person in many ways. Guiding principles was.

My next topic was a letter of good intent. I wrote to Ryan Walter—he is the President of student
education. In my letter of intent, I wrote to him with the best of intentions and simply just stated how
expensive and overwhelming college is in our day now, some people do not realize the toll that it can take
on us, and it truly shows. I never understood why it cost so much just to further our education. I feel as if
there is something we can start doing to allow us students to attend universities for a lower cost or have
some types of jobs that can help pay for that. I hope my letter reaches Mr. Walters and he gets the chance
to rethink ideas and maybe decide to get back to me.

My third essay was over my Beliefs. My beliefs are that I will eventually get to where I need to
get and that I need to be patient. Over the years I have stressed myself out thinking I am not
doing enough, that I am behind, or am going to be unsuccessful. I am a pioneer in many things---
meaning that I am the first to do so. In that essay I talked about how I grew up, lived, trauma I
had went through and how I got here today. I will forever live by my story and background, but
remembering how I got here and why I am living life the way I do is what I will never forget.
My fourth and final essay I wrote about the obesity epidemic and how restaurants, fast food
places have impacted our world and with people being overweight, being dramatically unhealthy
let alone allowing their lives to take a toll, that essay really meant something to me being that my
grandmother and ancestors were all diagnosed with diabetes. I have changed my nutritional life
for the better and hope I can continue to do so in the future. Doing that allowed me to have a
more focused, clear mindset. I chose to write about obesity and its cons because I want to see the
world and the people around me succeed and do it to the best of their abilities. A clear mind
means a clear life. Patience and work are the key to success, things are difficult before they are
easy, and people need to understand that.

Growing up, unfortunately my high school was not very advanced and all they seemed to care about was
each other’s business and sports. Although some teachers were amazing, my guidance was not, and I
never had anyone to just push me to have the want or desire to study and write. I can say that before
high school I loved reading and math. I remember trying my absolute hardest to reach over 200 points in
the AR club just so I can have a high school reading level to read bigger books. I also can remember
winning every spelling bee I ever was in, and that I would try to beat everyone possible on our timed
math quiz’s. But unfortunately, life changed for me. In High school I completely stopped writing and
being a grade A student. My first year of college I struggled with my writing because I barely ever did it
beforehand. I had a great formal professor who had taught me a lot. One thing I know I struggle with is
my comma’s, run-ons, and splices. My formats are usually perfect, and the typing is the easiest.

My writing processing has just started this year while being at NOC, I never would have thought to
brainstorm an essay, look for research, or set up an outline to make things easier for myself. I never knew
what it was, but now I use an outline each time I write. And I write in 3-4 other classes even at my job I
must properly email my supervisor or the doctors at Stillwater Medical. If I had a writing toolbox, I would
set it up to fully check for plagiarism, adverbs, splices, etc. My development as a writer is average, I have
a lot of trial and error left to do, or just more studying or format. My personal writing and topics are on
point as if I could write an entire book when it comes to speaking on things. I can say that I sometimes
struggle with research processing but when it gets closer to time on turning the writing prompt it, I
somehow manage to work better and focus better during those times.

Mrs. Davis, your advice, help on assignments, and guidance has truly made me a better person and
student. I will always appreciate you, and I pray that you get the biggest raise possible. Thanks, Tamara.
for your constant support and guidance.

Weston carl
