Comparative Analysis of Mutual Fund Performance in
Malaysia

Duo Assignment (Two students in per group)

Marks: 10%
Objective: To evaluate and compare the performance of different mutual funds in
Malaysia to help investors make informed decisions.
You are required to find TWO (2) mutual funds operated by Malaysian companies.
Examples of Malaysia companies on Mutual funds are Public Mutual Fund, Philips
Capital, Kenanga Mutual funds, ASM Mutual Funds and etc.
Based on the two mutual funds selected analyse their performance.

Assignment Outline:

1. Introduction
- Briefly introduce the concept of mutual funds and their importance for investors.
- State the purpose of the assignment: to analyse and compare the performance of
mutual funds in the Malaysian market.

2. Literature Review (4 LR)


- Discuss the key factors that influence mutual fund performance, such as
expenses,
fund manager expertise, investment strategy, and market conditions.
- Review relevant studies and researches on mutual funds in the Malaysian market.

3. Data Collection
- Collect data on the performance of a selected set of mutual funds in Malaysia
over
a specific time period (e.g., 3 years).
- Data can include NAV (Net Asset Value), Returns, risk measures (e.g., standard
deviation), and any other relevant metrics.

4. Methodology
- Describe the methodology you will use to evaluate and compare the fund
performance.
- Select appropriate performance metrics (e.g., return, risk-adjusted return, Sharpe
ratio, alpha, beta).
- Explain the significance of the chosen metrics and why they are relevant for this
analysis.
5. Analysis and Comparison (half )
- Analyse the performance of each selected mutual fund, emphasizing the key
performance metrics.

6. Findings
- Summarize the key findings from your analysis.
- Identify the best-performing and worst-performing funds.
- Discuss any patterns or trends you observed in the data.

7. Conclusion
- Provide a conclusion section about the overall performance of mutual funds in
Malaysia.
- Offer insights into the factors contributing to the performance differences.
- Discuss the implications of your findings for potential investors in Malaysian
mutual funds.
