VC Formal Platform Support and Licensing

This chapter provides information on how to request for licenses and the supported platforms for VC
Formal.

Note
In general, VC Formal is installed by the CAD team. VC Formal end users do not install VC Formal
application.

1.1 Creating a SolvNetPlus Account

SolvnetPlus is an online Synopsys Support Community where you can access information on
documentation and training, download softwares, perform secure file transfers, open support cases, and
much more. To access SolvNetPlus, click SolvNetPlus.
To learn more about SolvNetPlus, refer to the SolvNetPlus Getting Started article.
If you already have a SolvnetPlus account, login into SolvNetPlus, and perform the steps in section
Requesting and Installing Synopsys License Key.
If you are a new user, create an account using the following steps:
1. Click the REGISTRATION - CREATE ACCOUNT link at the bottom of the page to create a user
profile.
2. Follow the four step process that you are guided with by providing the required information such as
your name, address, phone number, and email address.
The SolvNetPlus account is intended for Synopsys customers only. Therefore, you require a site
number that you need to be associated with to create an account.
You can find out your Site ID Number using the following sources.

✦ Your Synopsys order notification e-mail
✦ The header information in your Synopsys license file
✦ The package with your Synopsys tools

Once the SolvNetPlus is created, you can access the various links included in the rest of the
document.

1.2 Requesting and Installing Synopsys License Key

Perform the following steps to request and install Synopsys license key:
❖ To request for Synopsys software license, customized license key file, starting the license server, and
setting up the user environment to access the license key file, refer to the Synopsys Licensing
Installation Information.
❖ You require a hostid when you request for a Synopsys license key. For more information on how to
get the lmhostid and send it to your Synopsys representative, follow the instructions in the Getting
Host ID for Synopsys License Server link.
❖ When you install the Synopsys licenses, ensure that you meet the Synopsys supported platform
requirements for Synopsys Common Licensing (SCL). For more information on the supported
platform for SCL, see the Supported OS for SCL link.
❖ To install most of the Synopsys linux-based products, including SCL, download the Synopsys
installer using the Downloading Synopsys Installer link.
❖ Click on the release you want to download and generate the installation guide for the release-
specific Synopsys Installer.

1.3 Synopsys Software Platform Requirements

For more information on the platform that Synopsys supports for a specific product release, see the
Supported OS for Specific Release.
For information about the changes on the platform that Synopsys supports, see the announcements made in
Changes to Synopsys Platform Support.
For more information on the VC Formal specific operating system support, see section 2, in the VC Formal
product installation guide.

Getting Started with VC Formal

This chapter contains information on how to download and install VC Formal. This chapter also contains all
the resources available to set up and ramp up on all the VC Formal applications.

2.1 Downloading and Installing VC Formal

To download and install VC Formal:
1. Click Synopsys Product Download Center link, and select VC Formal and AIP (VC Static).
The different versions of VC Formal are listed.

2. Select the version you want to install.

The page as illustrated in the following figure appears. The page contains the links to download VC
Formal, FTPS and SFTP Download Instructions, VC Formal Installation Guide, and VC Formal
Release Notes. The supported platforms are also listed on this page.

3. Follow the instructions in the VC Formal Installation Guide to install VC Formal in the designated
location.
VC Formal Installation Guide also includes sample commands to test and make sure that licensing
and software are installed properly.
For example, to check for DPV application installation, use the following command:
vcf -fmode dpv

2.3 Hands-on With VC Formal Through Examples

In addition to the resources listed above, VC Formal provides examples along with the software installation,

For each VC Formal application, there is a separate directory with the example design files, the read me file,
and the solutions. It takes 30 minutes to go through each application example to get hands-on experience
with VC Formal.
