PLO Reflection and Artifact #1

Throughout my health science courses I have learned how our healthcare system affects many

people in different ways. I have researched how public health areas can be improved in ethically

and culturally diverse populations. For example, in my Health 102 class I wrote a research paper

on how low income communities do not have great access to healthcare services and healthier

alternatives to stay in good health. For example, in these communities there are lots of fast food

chains and liquor stores all around. There is rarely grocery stores like Whole Foods or Trader

Joe's. This leads to a higher chance of diabetes type 2 because of the fast foods ads. Moreover,

many people do not have the income to buy organic food. One of the solutions I learned is how

schools should promote healthy eating and not sell junk food in schools. Growing their own

produce can be fun and more accessible.

This assignment fulfilled my learning outcome because of how I can detect the patterns in low

income communities and high income communities. After seeing the high risks of health issues

in low income communities, it is important to bring awareness of the situation and how it can

improve by educating one another. Starting with kids and in schools can change this pattern by

acknowledge of healthy eating.

Moreover, our health care system has improved due to the fact that healthcare informatics play

an important role in the healthcare industry because it received and processes information.

Communication is one of the main emphasis in healthcare informatics because doctors get to

share information more efficiently with their patients. I believe that my learning outcome from
this topic is important in the healthcare industry as technology improves. It is an efficient

implementation of electronic health records, information organizations, storage, data exchange

and standards.
