Madula BPED 2-1N San Sebastian and San Agustin Church
The church that being
show in the frame is the San Sebastian Church. It is my first time to visit the church in San Sebastian even though I always see the church when I’m commuting to Quiapo. The first thing that get my attention is the material that they use to build this type of Church. Not the usual type that you can see anywhere. We are used to see a church that being built from a full cement materials or stones from Spanish Era Church. The design is also somewhat intriguing to me because I used to see a church that are built in stone or cement that is why I do some research what the history of the San Sebastian Church is. Upon searching I learned that it is the only steel building church in our country. It was also designated as a National Historical Landmark in 1973 and as a National Cultural Treasure in 2011. By knowing this information now, I know why I get intriguing by the first glance I see the church much closer to my eyes. By comparing this type of church, I think the thing that it has is the uniqueness of the building itself because it is the one and only church that made of steel and also one of the endangered monuments in the world. This is the San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila. The church is very nostalgic since the building is like what we have in our province. The time we’re going to visit this church I thought that it just an ordinary old type of church. But when we arrived, I see a lot of foreigners that taking a picture. From that point my curiosity pumps up, so after taking a picture outside. Our group decide to go in to see the design inside. And just wow, after seeing the ceiling it’s like a sculpture but it is a type of painting that is a three- dimensional painting like you’re seeing a real sculpture art. I’m hoping that we can preserve this type of churches around our country. By doing this future generation can see it and be amaze. And also, it is the oldest church in the Philippines. The church was built in the time of Spanish era in 1571. It is one of the churches that built first throughout the country since Spaniards want to spread Catholicism to our country. Just by knowing this kind of information make me feel great to see this kind churches. I’m really grateful that our generation can see this type of nostalgic building. The difference of the San Agustin and San Sebastian church is that San Agustin Church is the oldest church in our country, and it have a different type of ceiling design unlike in San Sebastian Church. But on the other hand, San Sebastian is the one and only church in the Philippines that been made by steel.
