Final Assignment Journal

Shooting Day 1:

11/22/23

Film and Digital camera used

My first day of shooting I drove up along Highland Drive and 11th East. I took photos of the
Rancherito’s. It used to be something else but the architecture of the building has always stood
out to me. I continued to Villa Rugs, Backyard Birds and the Old Dutch store. I’ve driven by
these signs countless times in my life and they have always stuck out to me. I then continued to
11th East. I used to live in an apartment along 11th. I took pictures of the Sugarhouse Laundry,
Salt Lake Costume Company sign (they renovated and put up this sign while I was living around
there) and A1 driving school, which was in the same building I had lived in.

I have made my way to 9th east, specifically the 9th and 9th intersection. I got some pictures of
the Tower Theater. I used to walk down to this theater to watch movies, especially their summer
late night and tower of terror movies and I could never leave without renting a movie to take
home. Continued down 9th. Got some pictures of the Neptune Divers sign. I love the bright but
also kind of dull yellow their sign is. It just always grabs my attention. Iceberg Drive Inn and
Stella Grill also along 9th. Iceberg has a really cool building, the sign is really popping out with
all the dark clouds in the sky.

Shooting Day 2:

11/23/23 (Thanksgiving)

Film and digital camera used

I stopped at a few places along 7th east.

- Business Conference Center

- Salt Lake Christian Center
- Olympian Restaurant
- X Wife’s Place

I saw the business conference center awhile back and I just love the sign. I didn’t take any of
the Olympian Restaurant or X wife’s place on film.

I took mostly pictures on my digital camera. None of them really turned out how I had wanted.I
didn’t spend as much time shooting today, had family stuff to attend.
Shooting Day 3:

11/25/23 (Last shooting day)

Film camera mostly used, took a few digital.

My main goal for today is to finish my film roll and take it to be developed so I can get it back in
time for the assignment’s due date.

Main Street
- Bonwood Bowl
- Japan Sage Market

I drove up to about 33rd south and went towards Main Street. I’ve spent a lot of time at Bonwood Bowl,
especially after I turned 21 and funny enough, I don’t really enjoy bowling. Really cool sign and I’m glad
it’s still around. I’ve gone to the Japan-Sage market a few times with my dad, I always like going there. I
hadn’t seen the Great Wave mural before. Most of these were taken on film. Took some back up on digital
just in case.

I headed further into downtown. None of the places I wanted to shoot turned out the way I wanted, I
mostly went digital for those.

At this point I had filled my film roll.

I had already headed down State Street towards Cottonwood Heights, because a few places I wanted to
shoot were down there. I got some pictures of Fish Tech, used to go there with my grandfather, one of the
coolest signs ever. As well as the Ranger station in Cottonwood Heights. Gotta love those NPS signs.

State Street
- Recreation Outlet (after the cinemark)
- Donuts and Deli
- Glen’s Keys

Stopped at these places alon State. Only digital, didn’t like any of them.

Took a few selfies with my film, wanted to see my recently shaved head look and then took my
roll of film to Allen’s Camera to be developed.
