DOs and DON'Ts For Blood Donation
There are a few things that one needs to keep in mind while donating blood,
which include care before and after donation. Any healthy adult, 18 yrs. to 65
yrs., both male and female, can donate blood. The good health of the donor
must be fully ensured. The following is the list of things that should be taken
care of, before and after blood donation.
DOs:
● Drink 1-2 glasses of water before donating blood.
● You must eat food within 4 hours before blood donation to stabilize
your blood sugar.
● Ensure that you have slept well for a minimum of 6 hours the preceding
night.
● Do check the facility you go to, even if it’s a camp, it should have proper
amenities along with qualified doctors.
● Wear clothing with sleeves that can easily be rolled up above the
elbow.
● Bring a list of medications you are taking.
● Fill out the donor form carefully. DO NOT hide facts.
● Take rest for 30 minutes after donation.
DON'Ts (Advisable):
● Do not drink alcohol 48 hours prior to donation
● Do not drink caffeinated drinks (colas, coffee, etc.) 3 hours before
donating.
● Don't smoke at least 2 hours before donating.
● Do not leave the place for 30 minutes after donation.
● Do not drive for 3 hours after donation.
● Do not do heavy physical work/physical games for 4 hours.
