Thanks for purchasing this NZ wiring Single sensor Cam trigger kit

Tools required

 10mm socket,
 11mm socket,
 Ratchet to suit your sockets
 Small extension
 4mm Allen key

For best results, a quality and properly tensioned


cambelt with provide the best results.

Installation instructions.

Step 1,
Using your 10mm socket, remove the 3x bolts that hold the factory Cam angle sensor. Then remove
the factory cam angle sensor.

Step 2,
Using your 11mm socket, remove the 4x bolts holding the factory cam gear on, being careful not to
drop the square washer down the cam cover. The Square Washer is No longer required so can be
put to the side with the Factory CAS and 10mm bolts.

Step 3,
Take note of the dowel hole in the OE cam gear and in the
trigger disc, This ensures that the supplied trigger offset will
be close enough for start-up.
Fit the supplied trigger disc to the cam gear using the factory
bolts. Tighten up each bolt finger tight before final tightening,
this will ensure your socket fits nicely on every bolt.
The factory torque specs for the bolts are 19Nm

Step 4,
This kit mounts directly to the alloy bracket, it is recommended you remove the top cover before
removing the gasket on R32-R33 due to the fragile nature of them.

R32-R33 Remove the factory rubber gasket with metal spacers from the cam cover, this will expose
the Alloy mounting plate behind. The kit is designed to be mounted to this directly to help ensure
correct sensor offset. its recommended you remove the top cover before removing the gasket on
R32-R33 due to the fragile nature of the rubber.

R34 you can remove the steel inserts from the rubber with a small flat head screw driver, as the
rubber is stuck to the plastic top cover, Some cars may require the internal rubber loop to be cut
back or the rubber removed from the cover.

Step 5
Fit the cam cover plate using the bolts and washers provided

Step 6,
Test fit the sensor in to the hole, you are checking to see if the sensor has a gap between mounting
face. If in Doubt remove the rubber O-ring and test again. If there is a gap, fit the thinnest supplied
sensor shim and check the clearance again. The sensor gap should be between 0.2-1mm. The trigger
will work at slightly larger gaps, but if the gap is too large it can cause starting issues/ trigger errors
or no signal at all.
The Kit has been designed and machined to suit the OEM cam gear with a gap of around 0.5mm,
Cam gears such as Kelfords, Golbys and some Chinese gears are known to require shims.

Once you have confirmed the sensor fit, you can fit the final bolt and plug the sensor in.

Note: If you find that the connector doesn’t click in tight, Its recommended you change the
connector out for the one supplied with the kit, You can just swap the plastic casing as the terminals
are still the same. Once you Fit the orange lock in, give the wires a quick push from the back to make
sure everything is seated correctly.

Step 7,
Configure the ECU. Once completed you can start the car. If you have a timing light you can adjust
your base timing in the software. Please note that the most basic timing light is the best for setting
the base timing! From here it is Strongly recommended that the car is run on the dyno for an
inspection run. To get the maximum performance gains from the kit, a tune will be required.

Haltech trigger wiring


Haltech is sensitive on how the Reluctor sensor wiring is done vs other brands of ECU.
If you are using a terminated harness or a plug and play adaptor you can ignore the below info

If you are making a custom loom, you use the “Crank/trigger” wiring and you use the yellow and
green wires. Please see the trigger mode setup below.

Trouble shooting.
The most common problem is detailed below

No RPM, this is typically one of 4 main things, 1. Wrong pinout sensor for your harness, 2. Incorrect
ECU Setup, 3. Sensor Gap too large, 4. Incorrect wiring

1. There is 2 types of pinout one to suit alloy CAS and the other to suit the series 3, NEO and R34
GTR. The pinout is simply 180deg opposite. The Trigger pin is always the Inner most of the 2 pins.

2. Incorrect ecu setup, common problems include, Arming voltages at low rpm set too high,
Incorrect trigger mode selected, Incorrect sensor type.

3. Sensor gap to large. This is typically due to the shim being fitted when not required. The Sensor
depth from tip to mounting face is 24mm. So your ideal gap between teeth and plate is 24.2-25mm.
Now you can’t typically get Vernier calliper’s in to measure, so you can either remove the top cam
belt cover and check with a feeler gauge, or you can use a nut and bolt to check the gap.

4.Incorrect wiring, Wired using the Home trigger, Wrong pinout, sensor wired backwards, wrong
ground into the ECU used
