3. Tom started work on a job alone for 30 days. Jerry continued the job alone for 5
days, and finally they worked together for another 10 days to complete that job. For
the same job, if Tom and Jerry work together, they can complete it in 20 days.
Assuming Tom and Jerry each work at a constant rate throughout, how many days
will Tom take to complete that job alone?

4. Find the largest positive integer with the following properties:

(a) all the digits are different.
(b) each two consecutive digits form a number divisible by either 17 or 23.

5. Each of 20 children ranked 3 kinds of chocolate (A, B and C) in order of their

preferences, with no abstentions. Suppose 11 children preferred B to C, 14
preferred C to A, and 12 preferred A to B, and all possible orders of A, B and C existed.
Find the number of children who ranked A as their first preference.

6. In a mathematical Olympiad, 100 students were given four problems to solve. The
first problem was solved by exactly 90 students, the second by exactly 80 students,
the third by exactly 70 and the fourth by exactly 60. No participant solved all four
problems. How many students solved both the third and the fourth problem?

7. The product of 1 × 4 × 7 × 10 × … 1999 can be expressed in the form of

7𝑎 × 10𝑏 × 𝐴 where 𝑎, 𝑏 and 𝐴 are positive integers. Find 𝑎 + 𝑏 if 𝑎 and 𝑏
are as large as possible.

8. There are five positive integers which are not necessarily different. If I were to pick
four integers out of the five, the sum of the four chosen numbers can only be 34, 35,
36 and 37, what is the sum of these five integers?

9. The two-digit number ̅̅̅ 𝑎𝑏 and the number ̅̅̅𝑎𝑏+54 are said to be similar if the sum
̅̅̅ is the same as the sum of digits of 𝑎𝑏
of digits of 𝑎𝑏 ̅̅̅+54. For example: 16 and 16
+54 = 70 are similar because the sum of digits of each number is 7. 71 and 71+
54=125 are similar because the sum of digits of each number is 8. How many pairs
of similar numbers are there?

10. In the following expression, each letter represents a distinct digit. There is no
̅̅̅̅̅̅̅̅̅̅.
restriction on the digits inside the squares. Find the 5-digit number 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐵𝐴

11. A cube is cut into three rectangular blocks by two planes parallel to the base of the
cube. The ratio of surface areas of these three blocks is 4:5:6. Given that the ratio
of their volumes in the simplest form is 𝑎: 𝑏: 𝑐. Find the value of 𝑎 + 𝑏 + 𝑐.

12. A right-angled triangle with three sides of length a, b and c, where c is the longest
side. Then you may assume the Pythagorean Theorem which states that: a2 + b2 =
c2. Now consider a rectangular box pictured to the right with sides of length 24cm,
6cm, and 4cm. An ant, standing at point A, wants to go on the surface of the
rectangular box to point B (diagonally opposite corner of the box). If the ant walks
at a rate of 2 cm/min from A to B, find the minimum time for the ant to complete the
trip. B

13. On a rectangular table PQRS of 5 units long and 3 units wide, a ball is rolled from
point P at an angle of 45° to PQ and bounces off SR at an angle of 45°. The ball
continues to bounce off the sides at 45° until it reaches R. How many times has the
ball bounced?

15. Three persons together own a pile of coins. The total number of coins is between
1 1 1
200 and 300. They originally possess , , and of the coins, respectively. Now
2 3 6
each person is going to take out some coins from the pile until there is nothing left.

Then the first person is to return of what he has taken out, the second person
2 3
1
of what he had taken, and third person of what he had taken. If the returned coins
6
are equally distributed to the three persons, then each person will get back the same
number of coins which he originally possessed. How many gold coins were there
originally?

16. In the figure below, ABCD is a trapezium where AD is parallel to BC. Points P, A and
D lie on a straight line. Points B, C and Q also lie on a straight line. Line PQ intersects
AB, BD, AC and CD at K, L, M and N respectively, such that PK:KL:LM:MN:

17. On a particular bus line, between Station A and Station J, there are 8 other stations.
Two types of buses, Express and Regular, are used. The speed of an Express bus is
1.2 times that of a Regular bus. Regular buses stop at every station, while Express
buses stop only once along the way. Whenever a bus stops at a station, it will stop
for 3 minutes regardless of the type of buses. On a particular day, a Regular bus
departed from Station A. 40 minutes later an Express bus departed from the same
station. The two buses arrived at Station J at the same time. How many minutes did
the Express bus take from Station A to Station J?

or more fish is 6.
c) The average number of fish caught by the number of the people who caught
12 or less fish is 5.
