DICTATION (09/13)

Pursuing one’s dream through higher education and aiming for upward social mobility can be a challenging
task. Even though university is supposed to be the great equalizer, it has become evident that not everyone
is given the same opportunities when it comes to graduating college.
In the end, there is still a huge affordability gap between the haves and the have nots when it comes to
going to college. The former simply have to attend classes and keep up with the workload, while the latter
are burdened with the necessity to take out loans to pay for tuition & other expenses. Moreover, the
consequences of these loans extend far beyond financial pressure and create a domino effect: they hinder
one’s ability to plan for the future. For a graduate student who is already struggling to pay off a crushing
debt, getting their starter home and having kids is nothing but a pipe dream.
