During the length of this class, there have been many opportunities for

growth as a teacher. This class has taught me the importance of elements of art,
TAB and how to correctly write an art lesson plan.

One skill that I plan to use in my teaching for the future is to include TAB
days into my lesson plans. Children all learn in different ways and having them be
able to choose what kind of art they want to produce can only have a beneficial
outcome. Some children may choose to follow a typical route with a pen and
paper, where some might opt for glue and yarn. The freedom of choice for their
project can only heed amazing art.

Another skill that I plan to use in my teaching is pointillism. I had never

heard of that before this class, and while doing research on this kind of project I
found that this would be a great lesson addition to curriculum. The children get
to explore a new art medium and develop their art how they see it.

One more skill that I plan to use in my teaching is the understanding of

stages of artistic development. I think that can speak volumes as each child may
be on a different path academically and may rank different on the stages of
artistic development. Being able to know where each child ranks or what kind of
stage of artist development they are trying to portray, can give a vantage point
for improvement.

The most beneficial part of class for me was the lesson planning. Writing
lessons for the students can be a lot of work, but when you have the ability to
practice and make changes before you are in a real situation where you are the
teacher, helps to build your confidence as an educator. You have the ability to
make mistakes, learn from them and make corrections before you need to apply
the lesson in the future.

One thing I am looking forward to learning more about is visual literacy. I

am not very confident in this and would love to know more! I know it is such an
important part for helping children understand, communicate as a group and
develop lesson plans. There are many ways to incorporate this into an everyday
lesson and bring discussion to your classroom.
