Bhakti' is a Sanskrit word that means
'devotion. ' It was a movement that stressed a
devotee's profound, strong connection and love
for a specific deity and God's love again for
the believer. Bhakti movement started in South
India during the 7th to 10th centuries CE,
primarily via the poetry of Alvars and
Nayanars
Gurū Nānak (15 April 1469 – 22 September 1539;
Gurmukhi: ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ; pronunciation: [gʊɾuː naːnəkᵊ],

pronunciation ), also referred to as Bābā Nānak
('father Nānak'),[12] was the founder of Sikhism
and is the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. His birth
is celebrated as Guru Nanak Gurpurab on Katak
Pooranmashi ('full-moon of Kattak'), i.e. October–
November.Nanak is said to have travelled far and
wide across Asia teaching people the message of ik
onkar (ੴ, 'one God'), who dwells in every one of
his creations and constitutes the eternal truth.
Saint Kabir
There are several allusions to
Kabir's poetry in mainstream Indian
film music. The title song of the
Sufi fusion band Indian Ocean's album
Jhini is an energetic rendering of
Kabir's famous poem The intricately
woven blanket, with influences from
Indian folk, Sufi traditions and
progressive rock.
Sufi Movement
Sufism was a liberal reform
movement within Islam. It had its
origin in Persia and spread into
India in the 11th century. Most of
the Sufis (mystics) were persons of
deep devotion who disliked the
display of wealth and degeneration
of morals following the
establishment of the Islamic
empire.
Khwaja Moinuddin
Chisti
Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti was a
Persian-origin Sunni Muslim
philosopher and Religious Scholar. He
was also known as Garib Nawaz. He
came to the Indian subcontinent in
the 13th century and settled in
Ajmer, Rajasthan. He founded and
spread the Chishti Order of Sunni
Islam in the Indian subcontinent
Syed Mohammed
Nizamuddin Auliya
Syed Muhammad Nizamuddin Auliya
was one of the most famous Sufi
saints from the Indian
subcontinent region. Also known as
Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Mahbub-e-
Ilahi (Beloved of God), he was a
Sunni Muslim scholar and Sufi
saint of the Chishti Order.
