What is your position paper on the issue of human morality and poverty on the context of child
prostitution and child pornography in the Philippines?

The issue on morality and poverty on context of child prostitution and child
pornography in the Philippines has been a long battle. Law makers have been innovating laws
and local programs to somehow minimize such rampant issue. Shanties and slums in the metros
face such problem. The prostitution of children and child pornography, is due to poverty that
can lead to such things. We can't blame these children because through this they can earn
money to provide for their daily needs. No one wants this as a job, there are many jobs that
can be offered but it is difficult to get into it especially if the child did not finish school due to
lack of money for schooling.

Child prostitution and child pornography is illegal in the Philippines; more teenager girls
and boys are enticed into the sex industry. In most situations, the parents and related family
members of the children are the ones who sell their children foreigners or those who are
traffickers to prostitutes because they are poor and cannot afford their needs and demands.
Driven by poverty, the children enter the sex trade to earn a living for them in order to survive.
This position paper stands for two things. One, to make a positive impact to this ongoing
problem, the local government in every district must strengthen the public school’s system. In
this way, children would improve their cognitive abilities to decide on such matters. Second, the
local government should work on job providing and developing skills to the poor. In this way,
parents would not result in child prostitution to make ends meet. While the battle of this
problem is not a short term one, everyday family could do something better for every member
of the family.

Child exploitation in the Philippines is a complicated issue, requiring a nuanced

understanding beyond poverty. By addressing historical, cultural, and systemic complexities, we
can work towards creating a safe environment for every child to flourish, devoid of exploitation
and abuse.
