Mainly, three types of organizational structures are comprised in the project management.

These three structures vary depending on the different factors, such as the authority of the top

management, control over the various tasks of the organization, and roles and responsibilities of

the different members of the organization (Kate, 2023). Based on the organizational structure,

the project manager's responsibilities also change. Therefore, organizational structure plays a

vital role in the efficiency of the project manager's role.

01.Functional Project Organizational Structure

The functional manager has their functional team to operate daily tasks, and the manager

is responsible for communicating the final output of the project tasks to executive management.

Each function plays independently in their tasks.

02.Projectized Organizational Structure

In this organizational structure, they create their dedicated project-based divisions within

the organization. Project coordinators work vertically in specific tasks by reporting to the project

manager, and the project manager is the person who has the authority to determine the staff

requirements of each project separately.

03.Matrix Organizational Structure

This structure represents the combination of functional and projectized performance

characteristics; mainly, the project manager shares the authority and control power with the other

functional managers. Organizations can be categorized into three sections based on the decision-

making and controlling capabilities matrix. Compared to other structures, the matrix structure is

the most flexible structure to control projects efficiently and effectively using project managers'

authority (Kevin, 2023).

Weak structure- This structure is similar to the functional organizational structure; coordination

will occur horizontally without the active participation of the project manager.

Balance structure- In this matrix, the project manager acts like a primary staff member while

controlling, using little authority over project decision-making and control.

Strong structure- This structure is similar to the projected structure because the functional

manager works under the project manager, and the project manager has more power over the

matrix organization structure.
