ABSTRACT

This qualitative-phenomenological study aimed to know the

experiences of the in work immersion. This study was gleaned through
the theories by Kolb (1984), experiential learning theory was the
framework for this study. It suggests that experiential learning
opportunities should be grounded in a theoretical framework to ensure
each opportunity is educational. “Learning from experience” therefore,
begins with experiential education in the broadest sense and is followed
by experiential learning in the field and one of the ways in which
learning in the field can be facilitated is through work-integrated
learning. There were 14 Grade 12 participants in this study who were
divided into two groups for in-depth interview and focus group
discussion. Participants’ experiences revealed three themes: Lack of
using Technology, Lack of experience in work, and Lack of
communication skills. From their coping strategies, three themes
emerged: Positivity, Time management, and Teamwork. Lastly, there
were three themes revealed on the insight shared by the students in the
work immersion which include: Enhanced their skills, Be determined,
and Be goal oriented. Results suggested that Work Immersion can helps
students acquire the required aptitudes and skills through hands on and
real life training and to develop both hard and soft skills needed in the
chosen profession of students.
