1st Local Engineering Congress

General Guidelines
1. This competition is open to all bonafide students of Davao del Sur State College taking
Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering.
2. All AB engineering students will be divided into five groups: Heart, Tail, Talon, Fang,
and Spine.
3. All groups are required to send participants in all competitions. Failure to do so will
result in deducting points in the overall tally.
4. The organizers reserve the right to alter or change any specific guidelines provided the
group's leader (Chief/Chieftess) is notified of the changes.
5. The judges' decision shall be final and irrevocable.

Specific Guidelines
The guidelines for specific events are patterned to those of the Council of Deans for
Engineering Education (CODEC) – XI.

PITCHING COMPETITION
Team Composition
1. Each entry shall comprise a team of engineering undergraduate students who are
officially enrolled in Davao del Sur State College.
2. Each team shall be composed of three to four (3-4) students only.
3. Each member of the team must participate in the pitch competition.
4. Each team member should NOT wear anything that resembles his/her group.
5. Wearing business attire is highly suggested.
6. The team shall be able to present their pitch for a maximum of three (3) minutes only
otherwise, they will be forced to end their presentation.
Pitch Topics
1. The pitch must be relevant to the theme of the congress. This year’s theme focuses on
sustainability and industry 4.0 so each team may choose any topic from the 17
sustainable development goals (SDG).
2. The pitch shall cover the 12 key topics, otherwise known as the “dirty dozen,” as follows:
problem, solution, value proposition, market and opportunity, how the product works
(demo), go-to-market strategy, technology or unique selling proposition (USP),
competition, team, financial projection (3 years), funding strategy and needs, and
timeline and call to action.
Preparation and Deadline of Submission
1. Send a copy of your final pitch (max of 15 slides, in MS Powerpoint format) on or before
November 9, 2023 (5:00 PM). This copy will also be used during the pitch competition,
so make sure that any font or style is universally accepted.
2. Submit also a one-page executive summary (in MS Word format) on or before November
9, 2023 (5:00 PM). This copy will be printed and distributed to the judges. The team can
use any format or layout for this executive summary.
Criteria for Judging
1. Entries shall be judged according to the following criteria:

a. Idea Proposition – 30%


This is based on the team’s ability to identify the problem, articulate the solution
to the problem, and provide a unique differentiator or approach to solve the problem
or need. A demo of this proposition could be most helpful.
b. Market Identification – 30%
This is based on the team’s ability to present the need for the product, who will it
be marketed to, and why that group. It comprises of the market size, the potential
competitors, and a strategy to attract market.

c. Business Model Validation – 30%


This is based on the team’s plan to make it a successful business, i.e., the team
shall show the channels for marketing and distribution of product/service, identify
partners to efficiently offer and commercialize value, show projected revenue model,
and specify the “Asking Price” or needed funds for the proposed business.

d. Quality of Presentation – 10%


This is based on the team’s pitch: their level of preparedness and confidence in
their presentation as well as their ability to communicate their idea to the audience.
2. At least three judges (engineering faculty) from the ABE Department shall judge the entries.
3. Judges will only be given up to two (2) minutes for the Q&A.

QUIZ BOWL
1. The team shall be composed of four (4) members only. However, only three (3) members
shall participate in any round during the Quiz Bowl.
2. Substitutions are allowed only after the end of each round.
3. The faculty members of the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department will
prepare the set of questions. The scope of the quiz bowl is distributed as follows:

4. The faculty members will sort the questions according to the following subjects:
Mathematics, Science & Technology, and General Information and its degree of
difficulty whether Easy, Moderate, and Difficult.
5. The Easy, Moderate and Difficult questions are given the following weights: one (1)
point, three (3) points and five (5) points, respectively.
6. The teams are given 10 seconds, three (3.0) minutes and five (5.0) minutes to answer the
questions in the Easy, Average and Difficult rounds, respectively.
7. All the participating teams shall be at the venue 10 minutes before the start of the show.
Teams who will not appear after the fifteen-minute grace period shall be automatically
disqualified.
MANNER OF ANSWERING
1. Each question will be read twice.
2. Time starts upon the cue of the Quizmaster.
3. Each team will be provided with answer sheets, ball point pens, permanent markers, and
scratch papers to be used for their computations.
4. Final answers should be written in the Official Answer Sheet and should be enclosed in a
circle or a rectangle.
5. Answers that are not enclosed by a circle or a rectangle will not be considered.
6. If there are two answers separated by OR, the first answer shall be considered the final
answer.
7. In case the contestants need to change their answers, they shall cross out the previous
answers and rewrite the new final answers, still enclosed in a circle or a rectangle.
8. Watchers will be assigned to ensure that no alterations are made on the Official Answer
Sheets at the end of the designated time limit.
9. Answers must be written in print (not cursive) and readable.
10. At the end of the time limit, one (1) member of the team will raise their answer sheet and
will be gathered by the watchers.
11. The answer sheets will then be checked by the panel of judges after the correct answer
has been shown in the projector screen.
12. Final answers with wrong spelling will not be credited.
13. In case of mathematical answers, final answers with wrong unit will not be accepted.
14. Numerical answers in Mathematical questions must be specified with the required
number of decimal places. Failure to comply will invalidate the answers.
15. Further questions on accuracy of numerical answers will be referred to the Board of
Judges.
16. No deductions will be made for wrong answers or questions not answered.
17. A maximum of three (3) non-programmable calculators will be allowed for each team.
Cover of the calculators should be removed. Mathematical tables and conditional scratch
papers will be provided.
18. No other materials (e.g., reference books, notebooks, etc.), will be allowed during the
quiz bowl.
19. In case of ties, either an objective type or problem-solving question will be randomly
selected by the Panel of Judges from the pool of questions until the tie is broken.
CLARIFICATIONS
1. Only the official participating members of each team actually on stage may raise
questions or clarifications on the answers already given. Official coach of the team can
give advises during break only.
2. Clarification regarding the questions and answers should be directed to the panel of
judges only after the allotted time given per question, but before reading the next
question.
3. All questions shall be raised with decorum (good manners). Any act by the participants
derogatory to the Quiz Bowl Committee and to the Board of Judges shall be dealt with the
corresponding penalty to be decided and imposed by SABES and PSABE-PPG officers
including but not limited to the possible disqualification from the Quiz Bowl and suspension
in any future quiz bowls organized by the organization.
PANEL OF JUDGES
1. The Panel of Judges consists of a Chairperson and two members from the ABE
Department.

BRIDGE BUILDING
Materials to be Used
20 pcs barbeque sticks
40 pcs popsicle sticks
5 pcs stick glue (10 mm diameter)
1 Glue gun (each group must provide their own)
1 Extension wire (each group must provide their own)
1 Scissor (each group must provide their own)

1. Each team shall comprise four to five (4-5) students only.


2. Only the given materials must be used in building the bridge.
3. The groups will be given one (1) hour and thirty (30) minutes to finish their bridges.
4. Testing of the bridge will be facilitated by the organizers, judges, and a representative of
the team.

ENGINEERING GOT TALENT


1. The entry shall be composed of a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 15 participants.
2. Each entry is allowed maximum of three (3) minutes only per presentation. Presentation
that will exceed 3 minutes will have a deduction of five (5) points from the over-all total.
3. Presentations that showcase talents could be in the form of a song, dance, instrumental,
theatrical, or a combination of any form mentioned.
4. Obscene, vulgar and violent actions are strictly prohibited and can be subject for
disqualification from the competition.
5. The use of Props is allowed provided that props are not explosives, flammable, and does
not contain hazardous chemicals/materials.
Criteria for Judging
a. Performance 40%
b. Creativity 30%
c. Stage Presence 20%
d. Audience Impact 10%

ABE JAZZ CHANT


1. Each team must have 30-50 participants.
2. Each team must compose their own chant about Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering
with corresponding tune and choreography. They are free to use any instruments
available.
3. Costume is not required but creativity is.
4. Chant must be in a 3-5 minutes duration.

Criteria for Judging:


a. Originality 15%
b. Relevance to the theme 25%
c. Creativity 20%
d. Synchronization 15%
e. Choreography 15%
f. Voice Quality 10%
MOBILE LEGENDS
1. Each team per event must be composed of six (6) students. Five (5) members will be the
official players, while one (1) member will be the substitute. The 6 th member will be the
only acceptable substitute if any one of the officially registered members will not be able
to participate in the contest.
2. Match has to be played in 5v5 format.
3. Participants are requested to be online at least 30 minutes before their official game
schedule.
4. The organizers reserve the right not to allow participants who will come late during the
actual event.
5. A team must have at least one level 7 player.
6. Game will be played in a private “Custom Game” following the standard competitive
settings.
7. The lobby will be created by the casters and facilitators.
8. The team captains will add their team members in the game.
9. Games will be played in a mobile device. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
10. Official players can only be substituted by the alternate players before the start any game.
11. Standard competitive settings and mechanics will be used for each game.
12. Throwing, match-fixing, scripting, and cheating will result in disqualification.
13. Each team is given 15 minutes to join the lobbies created. Failure to do so will result in
an automatic loss.
14. Incomplete teams are not accepted.
