1) Honesty over phone and emails

The various technologies for communication are hardly at par with each other. A recent study
comparing honesty across a different range of media revealed that people were twice likely to
tell lies when using the phone than while communicating via email. It had previously been
assumed that people will be more inclined to fabricate the truth when using email, due to the
remoteness of the interaction making people more comfortable about deceiving others. On the
contrary, it seems that the anxiety over the accountability afforded by the recording of e-mail
exchanges induces greater truthfulness. Notwithstanding, the study likewise noticed that
individuals are significantly more prone to be discourteous over emails, outweighing the benefits
of increased honesty.

people were aware of it, it would drive them to be more honest on phone calls

Ans: A- True

Q2: People are much more rude on phone calls than on emails
Ans: B- False

Q3: It was assumed that people were less likely to be honest on emails if their superiors were
not in the mailing list

3) Rationales behind the introduction of environmental controls
There is considerable scientific disagreement about the available reserves of natural resources
as well as about the magnitude of environmental damage caused by particulate pollutants. Even
when the scientific evidence is indisputable, political conflicts driven by vested interests have led
to dissonance over the degree to which certain environmental pollution controls should be
enforced and accepted. For instance, governments in some countries tend to refrain from
introducing effective control based on concerns over how the regulations will impact industrial
growth and jobs, even when the environmental cost of not introducing controls are quite high.

Liquefied Natural Gas

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is prepared by converting natural gas to liquid form and
subsequently removing certain elements from it such as heavy hydrocarbons, water and dust,
which can damage the liquefaction plant or even lead to freezing in the low temperatures under
which the gas is stored. LNG can serve as a replacement to the otherwise commonly used
compressed natural gas to power natural gas vehicles. However, it is currently used for
facilitating the transport of natural gas to markets in areas where pipelines do not exist. With the
immense liquefaction and transport costs involved, LNG is generally sold under contracts of
twenty to twenty five years. Yet, the growth in re-gasification capacity has led to some LNG
being sold to the highest bidder. In view of the depleting domestic gas reserves which have
forced many countries to import natural gas, LNG provides a more diversified fuel source.
However, while the demand for LNG has been growing at a faster rate than gas consumption,
some countries that have been experiencing a steady decline in domestic gas production may
not be able to reverse this trend by making use of new technology to access gas trapped in coal,
shale and some types of sandstone.
*Source: Google
Q1 Which of the following is assumed, but not directly expressed in the above paragraph?
A. Some LNG is re-gasified
B. Re- gasification terminals are located within easy reach of liquefaction plants
C. LNG does not contain dust or water
D. In terms of energy provision, LNG is of little use

Ans: D
Explanation: Refer to the line, ‘... but its primary use is in terms of facilitating the transport of
natural gas to...” hence the implied meaning is that the main use of LNG is not energy provision

Q2 Which of the following can be concluded based on the paragraph above?

A. Countries that import gas via pipeline do not import LNG
B. LNG production only rarely exceeds business requirements
C. The LNG industry is only reasonably unaffected by short- term market conditions
D. Re- gasification capacity surpasses liquefaction capacity

Ans: A
Explanation: Refer to “It can be used instead of the more commonly utilised compressed natural
gas to power natural gas to markets in areas where pipelines do not exist.”

Yingjiesheng, Baidu. Answers are for reference only.
Q3 Based on the above paragraph, which of the following is definitely true of LNG?
A. In its liquid state, the density of natural gas is increased
B. When stored, LNG is frozen
C. LNG is purer than natural gas
D. LNG is most frequently used to power natural gas

Ans: C
Explanation: Refer to first line “(LNG) is a natural gas that has been turned into liquid form
following the removal of certain components, including heavy hydrocarbons, dust and water”

Q4 Which of the following can be concluded based on the passage?

A. Countries that import gas via pipeline do not import LNG
B. LNG production only rarely exceeds business requirements
C. The LNG industry is reasonably unaffected by short-term market conditions
D. Re-gasification capacity surpasses liquefaction capacity

Ans: B
Explanation: Refer to line, “However, since demand for LNG has been growing at a faster rate
than gas consumption…”

Reading
Reading has been imbued in our lives for ages past and present. In 1823 Sir Walter Scott
established the Bannatyne Club with the intent of conserving ancient Scottish literature. More
commercial ventures cropped up, which mostly employed the negative option technique in order
to market their publications. Several book clubs have mushroomed in the last decade, and even
daytime television anchors have established, promoted, and reported about book clubs. This
could have more profound implications as recent research indicates that children’s interest in
reading levies a greater impact on their academic performance as compared to the influence of
their socio- economic group. Whilst socio- economic groups do have their share of effect, it is
not a dominant factor in forecasting involvement in diversified reading. Encouraging the habit of
reading for pleasure could be one of the most effective ways of driving social change. The
correlation between the proportion of natural populations using the internet and overall reading
literacy scores implies that internet usage is encouraging more proficient readers. This is
notwithstanding that internet searches require one’s ability to peruse large amounts of data and
be able to judge its authenticity and relevance.
*Source: Google

vital for success
